Teddy's Red Tacos is a taco truck setup on rail tracks located in the center of the magnificent taco-rich Slauson Avenue stretch in south central L.A. dotted with many of the city's best tacos, including the products from Tacos Los Guichos, Puro Texcoco, Tacos Los Poblanos #1 Estilo Tijuana, Barbacoa Estilo Hidalgo, and so forth. Out of all of these taco powerhouses, relative newcomer Teddy's is probably now the best-known, mostly owing to having the right name and being a product of current times: no tacos are hotter in Los Angeles right now than tacos made with Tijuana-style birria de res, aka beef birria.

Their "Birria Taco" features beef braised with chiles until it is robust, rich, and exploding with flavor, and then dressed with onions, cilantro, and salsa roja in a superbly harmonious ratio. The light corn tortilla is dipped in run-off fat from the birria, giving it its characteristic "red" color.

One would typically dip birria tacos in birria broth, but these tacos are already so juicy that this is unnecessary. Regardless, I ate every last drop of Teddy's red "Consomé," a guajillo-infused broth of beef juices from the birria, perfectly spiced and thick with flavor. I prefer my consommé heavily spiked with lime, and squeezing in four wedges here does the trick, making the beefy broth a phenomenal combination of luscious, sour, and savory.

Being a taco truck parked over (what I hope are) defunct train tracks, the venue is no-frills and could easily had been austere, but Teddy's Red Tacos makes the most of it by blasting cheery cumbias Mexicanas from their boom-box stereo, and they set up plastic banquet tables with folding metal chairs under tents. The operation is well-organized and the line (yes, there will definitely be a line)...

Came here for breakfast around 10:30am on a Saturday and it was already starting to get packed! I would recommend coming early as parking can be pretty hard to find. They operate out of a food truck and with so many patrons the wait can be a little long even if you already ordered. The food is worth the wait though! My husband and I shared a deluxe plate ($10) which included a taco, tostada, mulita, quesadilla, and small cup of consumme. For that price it is a great amount of food!

The consumme is great and ESSENTIAL for eating birria; if I come again I would get a larger cup of consumme. Though I am usually a taco person, my favorite here was the quesadilla. Maybe because the tacos are so small, the quesadilla felt more substantial and satisfying to eat. I didn't really care for the chips so I would skip that the next time. All in all it's a great place to get some birria...

Teddys is now nationally known because of the press and social media hype behind this place. And to be honest it lived up to all my desires. The location is a little ruff because your in the middle of some train tracks and there a foul smell in the air but if u can get past that get ready for some great birria. The price point is good, presentation is very good, service is fast and there covered seating which makes it so much easier to like this place. The birria is good (lack a little salt but well worth the trip.the consume and birria tacos are so good...get the deluxe plate it's just the perfect size to fulfill your...
