Proud Bird is the absolute bomb! I mean their food is absolutely delicious. The the establishment is beautify decorated inside. The business is located near the airport and has a lot of history and there are historic airplains on the patios eating area. They have been there for years. There parking lot is huge and there is usually never a problem finding a parking space. When you walk up to the building, there is a beautiful Koi fish pond with lots of natural Greenery surrounding the pond so that you are getting an absolutely amazing experience before you even enter. The entry is decorated with beautiful woodwork throughout. there's also a display cabinet with a large selection of delicious wines and spirits. You stop at the front desk to speak with the receptionist in order to provide her with information as to how many are in your seating party. You're seated in a beautiful dining room and from there you go to the buffet which provides a very large variety of different types of foods. Depending on what time you go it could be breakfast, lunch or dinner. (The buffet is on Sundays which is the only day I've ever gone). The buffet is filled with bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs (real eggs), ham, eggs Benedict, hash browns, fresh fruits, juices milk and a large variety of other breakfast foods. Of course this is if you go at breakfast time. They also have a small bar where a chef provide you with omelettes made with the fresh ingredients of your choice. For lunch and dinner the buffet provides a wonderful variety of steamed crab legs and shrimp, a selection of beef, potatoes, Rice's, a variety of steamed vegetables, as well as a variety of ingredients to make things such as taco bowls, enchiladas, spaghetti, and so many other delicious choices. They have desserts which include cakes and pies. They also have fresh strawberries, pineapple and other fruits that can be dipped in their chocolate fountain. The experience is truly decadent. While you have your meal on Sundays, they also provide an unlimited supply of champagne. Hence the name of the buffet which is a champagne buffet, or champagne brunch. They have many sections within the building or Halls that you can reserve in order to have private parties or just to have a section for you And your loved ones. The bathrooms are clean neat and nicely decorated. No matter what the occasion, The Proud Bird is definitely the place to go. Also, it needs to be said that the Proud Bird is the sister company of a absolutely fabulous restaurant in Long Beach by the name of The Reef. This restaurant is located on the water in Long Beach and you absolutely have to try it as well as the Proud Bird. I recommend the restaurants to anyone and I promise you will...
Read moreWent here with my dad for lunch in Dec 2015. Food was good but service was a little slow (they seemed under-staffed). Guy at the carving station was helpful when the host/hostess was busy.
The atmosphere is 100% old-fashioned (dark wood, old chairs, etc). It's bright but definitely an out-of-date version of "classy". My dad (in his late 60s) saw it as upscale, but I saw it as old and out of date. So if that's the ambiance you're looking for, great. But don't expect something hip, trendy, etc., or even truly upscale with classical decor. They seem to have a large function hall right next door and a lot of function rooms near the main dining room. It's a little hard to find the right entrance and signage isn't very good (if there at all). Go to what looks like the front (nearest Aviation) and then go to your left and go in the furthest door. Go through the hallway, past the sign that says the DAR (or whatever) meeting is upstairs, and you'll reach the main dining room.
Despite that ambiance (which made me worry about how good the food would be...thinking of episodes of Kitchen Nightmares...restaurants with a gimmick and out-of-date decor), the food was REALLY GOOD. I had the salmon and thought it was great (at least much better than I expected from the look of the place). Had some of my dad's fries from his burger and they were good, too. So if you're a food-first person, you'll probably like this place. I wouldn't say the menu is progressive, but the salmon was done with a mango salsa of some sort that was good.
Of course the best thing about this place is getting to sit and watch the planes land. Don't forget to tour their airplane museum, too.
Staff were friendly.
I'd definitely go again and recommend...
Read moreUK plane geeks visited late September and wow can I say this is probably our favourite place to plane spot and chill out.
This establishment is made for all. The museum side for people interested in military and the history (this goes upstairs as well) Play area outside for the children (sorry adults were not allowed on it!! 🤣) nice big bar. Lots of old planes and seeing a DC3 is absolutely incredible, it’s a sight you can’t get bored of. We stayed in LA 17th to the 27th of September and didn’t discover this place until the 21st. We literally came back every day other than 2 days. 27th we were heading home and one day we landed from Phoenix late at night! Otherwise we would be here!
Food is extremely good. Skin on fries is a personal favourite. A few of things I add was the BBQ Burger, the chicken salad, and The pizza with the beef brisket on. Wow and wow it’s incredible! The sofas also have so many options and all the flavours actually give you the flavours like vanilla sodas.
Added extra for people with Buggys/strolers of if you have a disability. Ramp access into the building, viewing the planes as well as coming into the food court. This place caters for literally everyone!
Only niggle is that it doesn’t stay open as long midweek! Otherwise we’d stay until it shut then as well! Nice big car park friendly staff. This is Thee spot to go to if you haven’t already.
For the aircraft geeks like myself. Great landing photos. You can see what’s coming in far side. Can just about full frame widebodies with a 500 lens. Can distinctly tell the different airlines.
Thank you guys 🙌🏻 brilliant establishment will...
