Went here for a company Christmas dinner. I'll start by saying I live south of Lake Ponchartrain in bayou country and may be a bit bias on seafood dishes, but I do know flavor. Appetizers included fried calamari and onion rings. The calamri was rubber and had no seasoning, not even salt. The calamari tasted as if it was only breaded with flour and fried. Onion rings were not too bad, but again, we had to add salt. I ordered the shrimp fettuccine; the description: fresh shrimp and noodles tossed in a creme imported romano cheese sauce, topped with a hint of crakced red pepper. I'll start by saying this dish needed salt and black pepper, that was just the beginning. The shrimp tasted as if they were frozen pre-cooked shrimp or they had been boiled too long, not sauteed. When cooking a shrimp fettuccine, if you are not cooking the shrimp in the pasta sauce, they should at least be cooked in butter. The pasta water was not salted, the pasta was extremely bland. I also had to ask for crystal hot sauce to add flavor because the cracked red pepper was lost in the kitchen because it was not in this dish. No salt, no peper, bland dish. My husband order the catfish platter and added a soft shell crab. He asked if the catfish was local or farm catfish, the waitress told him it was local. We live in Des Allemands, which is the "Catfish Capital of the Universe" we know catfish. The catfish was most definitely farm raised catfish, it was not local wild. His crab was breaded in a flour breading, again no seasoning. Catfish was breaded with corn meal, but still no seasoning. Salt is a must to enhance flavors. I do not cook with a lot of salt, and frankly, I feel some restaurants use too much salt, but this place did not use any. I've seen other reviews saying this place was great, and I could not imagine a company choosing this for a company Christmas gathering if they did not enjoy the food at some point. But in my opinion, it is not worht the prices they charge. I am all for supporting local businesses, but I coud not imagine willing eating here again. SEASONING OF FOOD...
Read moreI heard good things about this place, but sadly, it was a complete disaster of a meal. Could not have been worse. It was a to go order, so nothing could be sent back to be fixed. First off, the young lady taking the order on the phone didn’t seem to want to do her job, very short with the wife on the phone, and didn’t write down the specifics of the order. The wife ordered a $24 ribeye well done, it was puddling blood on the plate. Her onion rings were cold. I order a shrimp platter with fries and fried crab claws, but stressed, please don’t put any sauces or dips in the container with the food cause they leak and I can’t eat them, they’re disgusting. Needless to say, all of mine had the containers of sauce and all of them leaked on the food and it could not be eaten. Now, maybe they are busy, and had trouble keeping up with the demand?? NOOO. They had 1 table with a family of 6, and another table with a couple sitting there, but they had problems with their meals also. They were talking to a manager that was apologizing for the problems and gave them a gift certificate on the way out. Now, if they can’t get a to go order right when they are not busy at all, I can’t imagine what will be on your plate when they get busy. $76 for a dinner that couldn’t be eaten. Pathetic, couldn’t be worse. However, I did not call and complain. Instead, they can keep the $76 and hopefully hire some real help that can take a customers order, and cook food properly. 2 kinda important topics when it comes to...
Read moreMy husband and I were camping at Fontainebleau State Park and decided last minute to try out Janie Brown’s for dinner. We had a wonderful first experience there. The people were friendly, the restaurant was clean, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, the service was prompt, and the food was fresh and delicious. We had the fried fish and soft shell crab (both with baked potatoes instead of fries), and our meals were perfect from beginning to end. Even the salad and toast were excellent…and that fish batter was reminiscent of the “good ole days.” As an added bonus, the bar stocked non-alcoholic beer (Coors Edge), which allowed us to splurge a bit, as we no longer drink but still love to have a beer together. In talking with our server, we heard a little bit of the background of Janie Brown’s, and learning its history as a family restaurant made us even happier to be there. We definitely...
