Kind of disappointed. We have attempted several times to eat here but you must make advance reservation, which is not typical for us since we tend to plan/do things last minute. Finally got in last night and I was underwhelmed. My first red flag is that the prices are hand written on the menu which to me suggests that they probably change often and who even knows if all tables are given the same pricing structure... Lack of transparency does not promote trust amongst your consumer S and J.
I'll move on to the food... HUGE portions. Definitely could be served family style, that should maybe be explained. I believe there was one vegetarian entree on the menu which was personally disappointing to me. I'm glad I asked, their "red gravy" aka the house sauce is made with meatballs in it... So just a word of caution to other plant based eaters. For that reason I will not be going back. Veal and pork were featured in most of the pasta dishes, so very traditional (antiquated) Italian menu.
The salad was cold and fresh and I agree with what others have said about the dressing being so good.
My husband ordered the lasagna and said it was fine.
We ordered drinks but there is no drink menu so we had no idea how much they cost. When I asked for the wine list I was verbally told the varietals of wine, ie. Cabernet, Merlot, Pinot Noir, et cetera.
The owner walked around but seemed to just stop at the tables of people he knew (not ours).
Ambiance was nothing to be desired, big empty rooms, very loud. Also no free refills on fountain drinks which is just ridiculous in this day and age. For that reason our daughter was disappointed ;) If you're looking for old fashioned/outdated cuisine and restaurant, where you have to plan ahead for weeks to attend, this is your place.
I'll end on a positive, our server Tabitha was a complete delight! Very proactive, prompt, kind and knowledgeable about the specials. Kudos to you, great service is...
Read moreVery disappointed!!! Poor service!!! I made reservations for Christmas Eve for dinner for my family of 6. We arrived at the time of our reservation of 8:30, only to be greeted by the maitre d telling us that they were way behind and were still on the 7pm reservations. He seemed very agitated and offered no apology for the delay, nor did he offer us a drink etc... During our wait to be seated there were several customers that knew the maitre d entering the restaurant that did not have reservations and asking if they could be squeezed in. THEY WERE SEATED IMMEDIATELY. When this situation was addressed to him by another dinner party that had been waiting, he did not respond and would just disappear for long period of time. When we asked him again at 9:30 when we would be seated, he said that our table was still being occupied by another party that had been there since 5:30 and he would try to ask them to leave and perhaps offer them drinks at the bar to leave. We sat down at 10:30 to eat. The service was very slow and no apologies were made for the length of time we had to wait. We were not able to finish our entree because it was so late and by this time the staff was moving furniture around the restaurant and breaking down tables to get ready to leave for the night. This is so unprofessional for the price we were paying for the meal. At the end of the meal we were served our bill for $291.00. Our family was unable to attend midnight mass as we had planned because of the long wait. THIS WAS SO DISAPPOINTING FOR SUCH A...
Read moreI've been to Italy many times
I've been to Italy numerous times and really thought I knew all of the spectacular Italian eateries in the gulf south. I didn't. I had been following Sal & Judy's on social media for quite some time and finally had a chance to stop there on the way home from Savannah. I can’t think of any place better now. The service is impeccable and attentive but not bothers. My wife, myself and my 2 boys ages 5 & 8 all ordered something different. My meal was lasagna. It was just as I had remembered it in one of the small towns around lake Como. Flavors combined so perfectly in the dish. My wife’s veal was presented beautifully. There was a whole plate of just veal. Another dish was presented with the fettuccine noodles. And the boys both had spaghetti and meatball. One son didn’t touch his meatball so I ate it. Scrumptious. All of this food brings my memory back to specific places in Italy. The boys loved it as well. And we were even able to score a glass of their delicious tomato gravy (our rouses have been out) Cannot wait until the next time...
