C&L Don't Need No Sauce BBQ — Restaurant in Louisville

My C&L experience wasn’t bad, at all. I work a way’s down the road so I pass the business constantly. Today, I decided to stop in. The business features a small, clean dine-in area that gives those classic quaint, family-oriented atmospheric vibes and the staff are nice. The menu is extensive and the prices are reasonable! For this review, I decided to go with the brisket dinner (I am a huge fan of brisket. I love to cook it, I love to eat it. I’ve had everyone’s brisket) and two side items which came with the dinner - I chose macaroni and cheese, and greens. Now, I must say, the brisket is good. It made a decently sized sandwich and the portion size is on-point, my only issues were with the side items I chose.. I didn’t taste a single lick of seasoning on the greens and the macaroni and cheese didn’t taste.... cheesy. I compare it to that of what you’d receive at a Cafeteria instead of a smokehouse.. I’m used to slow-cooked, thoroughly seasoned greens and cheesy (sometimes baked) macaroni and cheese that could curl your toes with one bite. However, with all of that aside.. Overall, I like C&L BBQ and I don’t regret visiting. I’m sure I’ll be returning sometime soon.. after all, you can smell C&L from one end of 7th street to the other. Stop passing this business up and try them, you won’t regret it. I do recommend the Brisket dinner...

Our order was: 2 rib dinners (greens and baked beans) 1 rib dinner (baked beans and mac & cheese)

The portion size is quite a hungry man's plate! The meat has a solid smoke flavor, I appreciate the amount of smoke. The greens and beans were a solid choice that were packed full of what you'd think a BBQ joints sides would be like.

Now, for the truth, be told. Unfortunately, the BBQ either needs its own chef, made BBQ sauces, or a simple dry rub. Then those ribs would be amazing! The only other area lacking love were the mac and cheese. Our order had zero flavor, and the noodles were way overcooked.

Overall, this joint has some solid BBQ! I will be back to try more. It's been a really good...

You definently Don't Need No Sauce!! I ended up stopping here for my lunch break yesterday 10/4/2023. I was in the mood for barbeque & I was not disappointed. I wanted the brisket but it's only available on Saturdays :( so I ended up getting the rib tip dinner with 2/sides (greens and potato salad). Really wasn't feeling the greens, but that potato salad was so yummmy. The ribs were great ...not overcooked, seasoned well, and I received a good portion enough to share!! The only thing missing was a toothpick lol :) I will be going back and whomever reading this should...
