This place is a jewel. I walked in to blank walls and fresh paint, since Alwatan (the previous restaurant) closed, it was an abrupt difference. There was a bright and cheerful lady standing next to the counter with an assortment of hot trays of West African food. I asked what the dishes were and found that they were serving three different rice dishes including jollof. There were a few different chicken dishes, okra stew and yassa which I ordered. Additionally, there was another business partner in the back making Lebanese food, who seemed to be carrying on the Alwatan torch who made my father a lamb gyro. They don't have a formal menu yet and still are getting started. Ask questions. Order what looks or sounds good and you will be rewarded with amazing food. The jollof rice was out of this world and the chicken dishes were perfectly spiced. The okra stew had some serious heat too which was appreciated. A full salad and two baklava comes with any meal you order, which is also great. I hope this place succeeds because this is some of the most delicious West African food I have had in the entire region, making it a great addition to the international food scene that this area of Louisville...
Read moreI ordered off of the website for delivery, and i wish I could have a better review for them; but most of the food was inedible. The hummus was grainy and bland, the pita was rock hard the moment it arrived (to me this says "heated in a microwave"). I ordered a beef schwarma and received chicken instead, I thought I could be ok with this- but I was wrong, the chicken was bland and there was something SO BITTER in the seasoning or vegetables, that I just left most of it. But the falafel was unforgivable. Burnt black bitter husks... I don't know how falafel can be ruined this badly. . . And I tried to eat just the insides that weren't burned... no dice- wierd bitter flavor throughout. I see all these great reviews on their African food, but the Mediterranean should just be taken off of the menu because it is done so poorly. A total waste of...
Read moreWalked into the restaurant at 8:42 pm and the young lady pointed to the clock and told us “we’re closed”!! How can businesses be supported and service like this is available! The bad part is this wasn’t my first time eating there! My first experience was the complete opposite, I asked the owner (Ms. Sonni) if I could taste a couple of dishes and she told me to take a seat, gave me a bowl and towel to wash my hands, and she came out and ate with me! Didn’t charge me anything and I told her I’ll be back! Well, after the service (or lack there of) that is now...
