I'm bummed out that I'm writing this, because I do like the coffee. I've been coming here often since it opened a few months ago. Coffee is good and it's really close to my house.
However, in the past few weeks, they have decided to awkwardly start asking me to tip. This just started and is really uncomfortable. I don't want to be guilted into tipping someone for doing the job they were hired to do. I'm okay with them handing me a machine or something that asks for a tip, but shaming me into it by asking when I hand my card is pretty ridiculous. I'm not sure if this is company policy, but I don't like it. It has happened the last 3 times and I'm over it. Clearly your employees don't feel like they are fairly compensated, but I'm not going to be coaxed into paying 10-20% more for my coffee as a result.
When someone says, “Would you like to leave a tip? No pressure.” they are using soft social pressure disguised as politeness. It’s not always intentional manipulation, but psychologically, it works like this:
They've planted the seed — now you're thinking about tipping when maybe you weren't.
They've given you an out ("no pressure") — but most people don't want to seem cheap or rude, even to a stranger.
Reverse psychology light — The phrase "no pressure" ironically reminds you there is pressure, just less overt.
It's like saying, "Do whatever you want...but you'll know deep down what the "good person" choice is."
In short: It's polite manipulation dressed as customer service.
Unfortunately, that was my last time going...

The entire staff is so beyond friendly and I'm so happy to have a go to coffee shop here! Thank you to the entire staff for making my mornings so wonderful! You guys...
Read moreWe love Scooters and visit frequently while travelling. Unfortunately our first two experiences at this new Scooters has not been what we are used to. The first visit was 20 minutes after advertised opening time but they were not yet open. The second visit we had a wonderful and fun gal at the window but our coffees were far too sweet (ordered light / half pump vanilla lattes). Attribute this to startup issues and hopefully things get...
