Slopeside Pub & Grill — Restaurant in Lower Towamensing Township

I went to Slopeside with a group of work friends for a holiday get together. I was the first one there from my party and I initially sat at the bar to wait for my party because I didn't know how many people were coming in total. While I perused the beer list, I ordered a soda water. I almost always do this when drinking as an anti-hangover hack. The bartender gave me some attitude when I ordered the soda water. This happens to me from time to time; I think they assume I'm taking up a bar spot and that's all I'm going to order. I brushed this off and figured his attitude would improve when we saw I was actually going to order real drinks. I offered my card to open a tab, which he declined. As people from my party started to arrive, we mingled in the bar table seating area. Again, I offered my card to the bartenders to make it easy to keep a tab open for me, and they again, declined. Not that many people showed up (I believe 8 in total), so we just stayed at a high top table after checking to make sure that was okay. I told the bartender which people were together and ordered my party not to change seats. (I was a server/bartender for over a decade, so I know big parties can be annoying when they do this.). I even made a joke about how he could call me "red shirt" on the tab or whatever, again...I used to do this for a living and I know what people do to make it hard. We all ordered food and drinks. The drinks are horrendously overpriced. I got a beer in a can and they were $9 each. This isn't the fault of the serving staff, but I thought it worth mentioning. When it came time to leave, the bartender brought the check and I asked for it to be split. He said they couldn't split it. I started to point out who was together (like I had done at the beginning of our service) and he flat out refused. He said we were just going to have to figure it out. After a bit more pushback, I said screw it and put the entire several hundred dollar bill on my card and luckily was sober enough to calculate what everyone owed me. It all worked out, but it took me about 30 minutes and definitely killed my buzz. I still tipped exactly 20% because, with Christmas being days away, I couldn't bring myself not to, but overall, the service was very disappointing. I have never had a server flat out refuse to split a check before. I indicated many times we were on separate checks and did everything I could to make it as easy as possible. In the end it kind of felt like the bartenders combined the check on purpose to be lazy. With the overpriced drinks, the mid food, and the terrible service, I will not be back. The four of us went there for the first time, on a beautiful warm July evening. We arrived around 5:30, and the indoor and outdoor restaurants were both filled to capacity, and since we did not have reservations we were told that the wait time was an hour and a half. We passed the time by getting drinks at the bar and exploring the grounds- watching people play beanbags and giant checkers and other outdoor games; we also spent time sitting in the large adirondack style chairs around the fire pits. When our pager finally buzzed, we were taken to our table on the outdoor deck. We ordered a few appetizers for the table, and to save time we also ordered the main courses as well. About 10-15 minutes later, our food arrived. All of it, at the same time. Apparently our waiter thought we wanted the appetizers served with the main courses. We assured him it was no problem, since we were really hungry, and we dug in. Appetizers: 2 orders of Drunken clams were excellent. Meat and cheese board was very good, with a wide variety to choose from. Parmesan shrimp and crab dip was good. Main courses: Hamburger was juicy and cooked to order, as requested. Penne Pesto was excellent, with fresh basil flavor. Cajun chicken alfredo was good, with not a lot of heat. Crab Macaroni and cheese was OhMyGod good with Old Bay bread crumbs baked on top and lots of real cheese. Old bay french fries were very good with lots of Old Bay seasoning. Overall, it was very busy, and the waitstaff were attentive and worked to keep us happy. Everyone was friendly, and it was a great experience. We will definitely return for another great summer evening with friends. I am so disgusted buy this restaurant,I only go here when I do because my daughters for some reason like to go and see the mountains and the view and beg me to take them they don’t have not one minority working and they are so racist when I enter the restaurant it’s like the staff has never seen a person of color in there life this time around I took my food to go the manager told me and my pregnant wife and 5 daughters we could not sit outside the manager is another rude Racist guy hew was asking questions that were none of his business and making our time there even more uncomfortable we just left the restaurant and preferred them to text us when the food was ready for pick up when my pregnant wife and older daughter go to pick up the food mind you we are a family of 7 they supposedly had no cup holders for the drinks no napkins they workers in the front desk were extremely rude and obnoxious and laughing making my pregnant wife and daughter feel very uncomfortable my daughters dropped the drinks because of how flimsy the cup holders were and they put all out food in a bathroom toilet paper 🧻 box know I know why they were laughing when I get home the food is horrible extremely spicy and they put picko instead of fruits on my daughters kids meal she ate it thinking it was fruits and was crying from how hot it was this place is horrible if your a person of color don’t go here they will make you feel horrible and out of place the Manager should get fired extremely rude guy no care for family’s or there kids I drive an hour just to take my daughters here every time I go spend over 100$ and this place makes my experience a living hell I give this hell whole a star because I have to I order to...
