The Mad Viking is hands down the best hidden gem in Cape May County. The moment you walk in, you know you’ve found something special—there’s nothing else like it this side of the Mason-Dixon line. The decor is bold, immersive, and perfectly captures the rugged coastal-meets-Nordic vibe that feels right at home here, yet totally unexpected. The branding is spot on and gives this place a unique energy that sets it apart from the usual shore spots. Every detail feels intentional, and it’s clear the owners truly care—not just about their business, but about the community. It’s refreshing to see people continue to invest in our shore towns in a way that adds character and quality. I highly recommend the Nordic fries!!!

I saw a video on TikTok of this place so we went that night for dinner! Its big with a lot of tables outside and the food was really good! We sat at a table on the sand in the kids play area where they have a playground pirate ship. There is no server in that area so you have to order at the window and they text you when its ready and its given to you like a take out order. That's the only reason I didn't give 5 stars. Had to keep going up for stuff. And just FYI, there are only 3 tables in the kid's area, but we were able to get one on a Tuesday at 430pm

We enjoyed our visit! We went early before it got really crowded. Slushies weren’t very strong but tasted great. Mixed drinks were strong and delicious. The coconut shrimp tacos were great! Fish and chips and onion rings were also really good. Fried chicken sandwich was good, not great. Service was good and it’s a great place to hangout for a while. Playground was fun for the kids. The deck was a bit tight for a stroller.

Echoing what others have said here. The atmosphere is great - lovely bay views, a spacious deck with ample seating (we stopped by around 5:30 on a Tuesday), great bar selection, and even a play area for kids.

Service was excellent! Everyone is friendly, attentive, and accommodating (we have a toddler and it's a hit-or-miss for seating at similar venues). Seating is first come, which might be problematic during peak hours, but worked out great for us.

The drink selection is solid with a great variety of slushy-type island drinks, along with domestic/ imported/ craft beers, seltzers and the like, cocktails, and wine.

The food menu is decent, but prices are high, especially for Lower Township/ Diamond-ish Beach - just because you can see Cape May doesn't mean you're in it. Prices would be forgivable if it wasn't for the bland food. I ordered the fish and chips, my wife the Baja tacos with shrimp, and Mac and cheese for our son. Everything lacked even a hint of seasoning. It seemed fresh, but was woefully under seasoned. The fish filets were breaded in panko, which is a weird choice for fish and chips, but the flavor was...missing. Like, not even salt, except on the fries. Not a hint of an herb, dried or otherwise. Nursing home cardiologist approved.

Stressing this again: your prices do not reflect the quality of your food. I have no problem paying more for fresh and tasty dishes, but this was a let down.

TL;DR: Come for the drinks and views, but avoid the food. Your tongue and wallet...

Reviews matter to me and I leave them when I feel strongly one way or the other. We really wanted to like this place. We went with our dog where they have a small picnic table area for people with pets. They provide you with water for your dog. Our waitress was very nice. She was very accommodating as well. I had ordered a frozen rum drink which I was anticipating to be similar to a Rum Punch. It tasted like cotton candy. So much synthetic sugar and food coloring. It was awful. I asked if they could make a classic margarita on the rocks with salt and she said absolutely, and she would try to get the other concoction taken off the bill. I was very appreciative of this. She succeeded in removing the other drink and brought me an equally awful margarita. I don’t know what they put in it but the margarita mix was equally synthetic/sweet and it tasted like they also topped it off with Sprite. It was also terrible. I did not say anything. The only food we got that was decent were the stuffed clams. I forget what they were called. However, they charge $15 for three clams. Incredible rip off. The other appetizers were basic crappy greasy fast food. If you’re looking for good food, I would avoid this place like the plague. If you’re looking for a good drink, I would also avoid this place. As I said it’s a shame because the location is nice and our server was sweet and accommodating, but we will not...

Our family came here on a whim after seeing it on instagram . The menu looked good and we liked the waterfront ambiance and the outdoor playground for kids . To start you seat yourself and then someone will come bring you menus and utensils. We first got there around 12:15 there were ample tables but we waited for 10 minutes to even be acknowledged . When our waitress came over she handled us everyone didn’t ask if we wanted water or anything while we looked over the menu. About 10 minutes later she came back and due to the pace of things we put in our full order . My husband and I ordered bar drinks , kids slushes and a round of waters . The bar drinks showed up no problem . After 20 minutes my kids were still empty handed . I get when you are busy and the bar is backed up but that clearly wasn’t the case . So I went to find and she was like “oh.” The drinks came over shortly after . The food was good nothing spectacular but my husband got the wrong thing . We don’t see her anywhere nor did she check in for us to acknowledge this so due to the lack of time and kids patience he ate it . Luckily , it was something that he considered getting . She finally came over at the end of our meal and we told her this and she was like “oh sorry do you want something else .” We told her no bc we had to go and he ate it but it was a total miss . Then the tipping percentages were inflated as...
