My son dream of joining and becoming a seaman came to abrupt end due the Cape May Crud and then some real BUREAUCRATIC STUPIDITY that only the federal government can produce.
First off the positive. Cape May Boot camp is incredibly hard. We the parents had no idea the fall out rate. Our son made it to the last part of week seven (essentially graduation next). His Lima 207 Company Commanders are in my son’s words (the finest human beings he ever met). He’s a better human being today. He has nothing but respect for the training and why it is so difficult.
Graduation never happened. Now the government stupidity. He developed Cape May crud. No medication except over the counter which you have to go somewhere to get. But here is the ABSOLUTE STUPIDITY part. While he trying to get some musinex (or anything) to get through 3 days to graduation and push through essentially walking pneumonia. Some bureaucratic list said he needed his perfectly fine wisdom teeth pulled. I CAN’T MAKE THIS UP. They, the next day pull perfectly healthy wisdom teeth which means Anesthesia, plus the stress on immune system. Now my son is (push to pass out) sick.
Didn’t end well, showed up home with full pneumonia. Didn’t graduate (parents opinion, he would have absolutely graduated without wisdom tooth debacle). He can reenlist. Will he, we as parents won’t influence. Personally I hope not.
I perfectly understand the dangers of my son being in coast guard. And what could have happened.
His Coast Guard career didn’t end that way. It ended because of ABSOLUTE stupid bureaucracy. I really feel for all the fine company commanders and rank and file coast guard. You sound like amazing people.
For the bureaucracy, I hope this post causes you some serious extra work and pain, just like your bureaucracy does to end a recruits dream. Ain’t sure that dream is...
Read moreI have had this as five stars for quite some time but I just realized I've been fighting for over 20 years to get a proper medical discharge notated on my records! I think Yale Law School had a Kennedy case with in partenship with the Vietnam Veterans of America and through legal suit that were able to clearly proof the Coast Guard had an extremely low complaince rate in regard to medical discharges over a 10 year time period. Anywhere from 90 to 98 percent of the time they were not following proper protocol in regards to the discharge process. They did this to help demostrate hiw many vets were improperly screwed out of their G.I. benefits and healthcare coverage, etc. Also a incorrect dischage status on your DD214 can also cause major employment issues in certain sectors. I am soeaking from experience. currently been waiting about two years in que to get this...
Read moreI made reservations two months ago for a 4 day stay at one of the guest cottages and received a confirmation number. I didnt not hear anything (phone or email) from the MWR office the past couple months. So, today I decided to call the MWR office and find out what's going on since my reservation is next week. The lady on the phone told me that my reservation was canceled and that she doesn't know why? I am retired Air Force and I get that I might not be priority. But to get an answer like that this close to my reservation date, and the the fact that I booked this 2 months ago and didn't receive an email or phone call that it was canceled is really disappointing. If I was told ahead of time that it was canceeld, then I would have no issue. But I never received a response from the office of the cancelation at any time prior to today's phone calI is not a good way to...
