Today is my Grandson’s 3rd birthday. I called Harbor View yesterday. I told them my family wanted to come in but eat upstairs. Asked what the hours are. The first gal I spoke to did not understand my question. (Said it had to be indoors). She put someone else on the phone and I was told breakfast was served till 11:30. I told her what if we wanted lunch. She said lunch would be served right after breakfast. Again, I emphasized I had to eat inside. Our birthday party of 7 arrived at 11:26. DEFINITELY before 11:30. We walked in and there was a sign that said wait to be seated my hostess. (No hostess there). I waited a few minutes and and walked around to the side of the bar. I told the gal there was no hostess. She said, sorry, it’s 11:32. You cannot he seated for breakfast. WHAT? The SNOTTY hostess then came downstairs and said we could not be seated because it was past 11:30. Ok. It’s the grandson’s 3rd birthday. I’m in a happy mood. I said no problem, we would have lunch. I asked how long of a wait. I DO understand breakfast must be put away and lunch items organized in kitchen. She kept saying she had no idea, but we could be seated outside. I kept telling her I didn’t want to eat outside. (My husband has medical problems and cannot be outside when it’s humid ). Again she says she has no idea. Now I’m starting to get mad. I told her breakfast is served every Sunday. How could she have NO idea how long the changeover wait would be. Finally she says an hour. I told her about my phone call yesterday and how I was told breakfast goes directly into lunch! Nope, she could care less what I thought. I then asked if we could go upstairs and just sit. No food or drink needed till lunch was being served. She refused to let us upstairs and sit. No tables were available. My next request was to talk to the manager. A cook came out and said he was the manager. I explained how I was given wrong info about breakfast going right into lunch. He said oh well, circumstances change. WHAT? Just want to post how lousy their customer service is and they do not stand by the info...

I had the calamari (again with the panko!) but added the Capt Fred roll which was tuna with a crunchy spicy salmon and eel sauce. Ladies had the grilled corn and avocado salad which was huge and delicious. Also split and order of bok choy. My friends shun most meats and found the menu full of fish/veggie options. The waitress (Victoria!) was awesome - attentive and helpful with menu/drink suggestions. Still pricy though. An extended lunch was $125/couple. So this still will reduce the frequency of return visits. Also, the deck music was still a bit on the loud side But still very enjoyable.

In our continuing effort to ‘research’ the ever-changing restaurant scene, my wife and I tried out Port for early dinner tapas. We started with an order of Edamame. While not a generous portion, it was adequate to stave off any hunger pangs. Unfortunately, there was none of the requisite kosher salt clinging to the pods. After requesting some salt, the waiter brought us a container of kosher salt.
We then placed our orders for some appetizers. I decided to try the Fish & Chips while my wife ordered the Ceviche. For $28, I would have expected a larger portion. I received two thin pieces fish breaded with panko and fried to the point that the fish was on the dry side. The “chips” were shoestring fries accompanied by a stone ground mustard honey sauce. The ceviche (scallops, today) was in a nice spicy sauce with tortillas for conveying the ceviche. After $21 for a beer and a grapefruit crush, the total bill with tip was just south of $100. The deck ambiance was much nicer than the previous Harbor View, but the music was just a bit loud where we we were seated. In fact, a couple were seated adjacent to the speakers and moved after a few minutes. I know we will be back, but the price/value gives us pause as to the...
Read moreI recently had the opportunity to visit Port Cape May restaurant and I must say, it was long overdue for this area. The overall atmosphere, drinks, and food were all great and so refreshing. However, there were a few things that could be improved.
Upon arrival, our party of 6, including grandparents, was initially seated at a low table with lounge chairs. Unfortunately, this setup required us to bend over in order to eat comfortably. Thankfully, when we requested a different table the staff quickly relocated us without any issues.
One downside was the excessively loud music. The restaurant had a DJ playing music at a volume that made it nearly impossible to have a conversation. I get their intention and the South of France “vibes” but if you plan on bringing someone with hearing aids, seriously reconsider :) When I inquired with the hostess about the music volume, hoping to find out if there were quieter periods, I received an attitude ( lady in a green dress with blonde hair). The hostess seemed dismissive and informed me that the music would remain loud at all times. I'm certain that we were not the only ones who had concerns about this.
On a positive note, the drinks and appetizers arrived fast. The lychee martini and cucumber martinis were amazing!!! . We also ordered raw oysters and clams as our apps, which were incredibly fresh and delicious. Additionally, we had sushi, finally an exceptional sushi spot in Cape May. 10/10
Unfortunately, the main meal took over an hour to arrive and when it did, it was cold. I must mention it was only their second day and it was Father's Day weekend. At one point, the restaurant had to stop seating people due to the overwhelming demand and the kitchen struggling to keep up.
Despite these setbacks, I do plan on returning to this restaurant. I truly loved the overall atmosphere, the appetizers, and the cocktails. Our server was also very kind and apologetic. Overall, I am excited about this new spot in Cape May and wish them all the best in their...
