Dixie Drive-in — Restaurant in Lumberton

Having read the raving reviews, we took the detour from 95 south and we're met with great service (hence the 2 stars instead of 1). The attendant was prompt and friendly.

We ordered the chicken filet sandwich and the fried chicken sandwich along with fries and onion rings. The chicken filet: the chicken was so rubbery, my wife did not even take a single bite because the texture was that bad. The batter around the rubber chicken was fried a bit too long just like the onion rings. Other than being a little too crispy, the onion rings were decent. The fried chicken sandwich was laughable. I admit I am from just north of the Mason Dixon line, so I may be unfamiliar with this tradition of the south, but a piece of fried chicken (leg and thigh) stuck between a couple pieces of white bread does not a sandwich make! I threw the bread out and ate the sub par fried chicken. Finally, the fries. Being this was the subject of the best reviews and the thing that drew us in most, we were most disappointed when we actually tossed the full basket, uneaten, into the trash. The batter and potatoes were soggy and bland.

My advice: IF you decide to stop here, skip anything related to chicken and order a burger as that sounds to be another favorite. Also, if you insist on getting fries, make sure to request they are fully cooked, but...

DO NOT STOP HERE!!!! 🙏 I went here with my wife and son and got simple cheeseburgers and double cheeseburgers for them and myself a fish plate with a side of toast I live outside of the city limits I did not get my toast I also did not ask for coleslaw I called to complain about this being such an inconvenience and was hung up on I went back up there to get toast and the right side and I was refused a remake on my order this is ridiculous terrible service terrible atmosphere bad management. Not only was it a wasted trip but I had to go back up there just to get the same food that I had just given back to the employee to remake. So in all I've waited an hour and a half for bread and my food still be an hour and a half cold this is not the way to treat your customers for you to be cash only this is a disgrace don't tip these people. The Dixie use to be one of my favorite places to eat and I've been eating there all my life but the last few times I've eaten from there the food wasn't anything like it use to be and the french fries which they are famous for was nothing but like scraps from the bottom. The best thing about my last visit was the young curbhop that took my oder and brought it back out. I'm sorry I failed to get this young man's name because at one time I knew them all but not anymore. Whoever this young man was his parents certainly raised a well mannered and kind young man.
