Spending a night in Lumberton we looked at Google Maps for Mexican Restaurants. We have eaten at a different Mexican Restaurant in Lumberton but decided to try El Zarape. It was a good choice. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. As soon as we sat down at a booth they came over with chips, two different salsas and took our drink orders. I think this is the first non-fast food restaurant I’ve been to that doesn’t have tequila. We were going to have a tequila drink but instead had non-sweet Iced Tea. I ordered Vegetarian #1 which was a bean burrito, a cheese enchilada and came with rice plus a side order of beans. My wife had a cheese enchilada, bean enchilada and a chicken taco. We shared an order of guacamole which was extra delicious. Our server, Mayrna, was excellent. She came over just the right amount of time to check on us and offered suggestions on what to order. Our car was at the local Chevy dealer and we didn’t know if it would be ready the next day. We told Mayrna if it wasn’t ready we would see her the next night but if it was ready she would know it worked out for us. Mayrna: We will see you on our next trip, thanks.

First off, let me say that I didn't expect much because of the location. That being said, I was genuinely impressed with the experience. The prices were great. I had Fajitas Texanas, which I usually pay $16-$18 for at most Mexican restaurants. The menu price here was $12.95. The portion was substantial, so they didn't skimp. I ordered Guacamole, and the server asked if I wanted everything in it. That let me know right away that she was making it fresh. The Guacamole was some of the best I've ever had, and the consistency was just right. I will definitely be back the next time I'm in town!

While driving back to Georgia from Virginia I stopped here and got a menu item that is called A Little Bit of Everything and that’s exactly what it was. All your standard Mexican fare together. I could only eat about half of it and saved the rest for the next day. It wasn’t much more money than a standard combo but was pile of food. The chips and salsa were not great and the dish I got was just average Mexican fare. Other than the huge portion, nothing would make me want to go back.

Our first time here after contemplating on going forever now, & it was really good!! I've not had a Chile poblano that was this good in a long time! My husband bragged on the shrimp (& chicken) that was in his taco salad- perfection!... so kudos to the cook! We're totally gonna come back & recommending to all out family & friends. Oh yeah, the sweet tea and salsa were to die for 😉 The male server was very knowledgeable & explained things well. The only negative thing that made this rating less than 5 stars was their friendliness of a few staff members- would talk to you but didn't do it with a smile, it made you feel like they were only talking to you to do their job which could've been in a friendlier manner- this would make have made it a friendly atmosphere I expect...

Been meaning to try this place for a while. I'm glad I did. As soon as I was seated a waitress brought out fresh chips and salsa. There were 2 bottles of salsa. One looked like it had peppers in it and the other looked pretty plain. I only tried the one that looked like it has peppers. It was incredible with plenty of heat. The chips were very good as well. I knew I wanted a burrito and my waitress took time to explain the different burritos on the menu. I ordered the mixed Caly burrito. It had steak and chicken. What I took notice of was that the steak was thinly sliced and it was very tasty. The burrito was one of the best I've had in a long time. Customer service was great and the food was great. I'll definitely be back to try something else...
