In a rush for a delicious pitstop on our way to DC, Happenings at The Elm initially seemed like a perfect choice. We settled in, eager to try their menu. Unfortunately, our experience took a turn for the worse. Despite politely letting our server know we were ready to order and on a bit of a tight schedule, a frustrating amount of time passed before they even came to take our order. Hoping to get back on track, we opted for a seemingly quick option - a margarita flatbread and a grilled sandwich. We were assured the wait would only be around 12 minutes. Unfortunately, that information proved to be overly optimistic. As minutes bled into what felt like an eternity, we watched other tables come and go while our food remained elusive. By the time our order finally arrived, a good 30-40 minutes had passed, throwing our entire travel schedule into disarray. While unexpected delays can happen, the significant discrepancy between the promised wait time and reality, coupled with our initial communication about our time constraints, left us feeling frustrated and disappointed. Happenings at The Elm might have the potential to be a great place to grab a bite, but if you're short on time, be prepared for the possibility of a much longer wait than advertised. Read moreI really wanted to like this cute restaurant. It is located inside an old house on Elm St., in downtown Lumberton, NC. The place is ready for Instagram pictures with your favorite girlfriends. However, the food is subpar. I wanted a light lunch, so I ordered a grill cheese sandwich. After all, if you can't successfully make an American grilled cheese sandwich, you can hang your apron and quit your job as a cook.
As you can see from the pictures, what I received was a plain Jane grilled sandwich, with a handful of out-of-a-bag potato chips. The sandwich had no flavor, not even the cheese singles! If you take that little care a simple grilled cheese sandwich, what else are you cutting corners on? And why did I have to wait 20 minutes for such a simple item when I was the only person in the restaurant?
You look at the picture and tell me if that was worth $9.
I hope the owner takes better care of the menu instead of concentrating...
Read moreWe have recently moved back to Lumberton after 15 years in the Charlotte area. Having heard about Happening on Elm we gave it a try. This is a truly hidden gem in downtown Lumberton NC. Their menu offers a wide choice of food and specialty items. Our food was excellent. There are two bars which serve craft and domestic beers and their ample selection of wine. You can browse and purchase the many works of local art and pottery displayed throughout the restaurant. There are several quaint rooms available that give one the feeling of privacy while allowing dinners to remain a part of the open areas. There is also a private special event room. Unlike most special event venues Happenings on Elm's is big enough for most events yet keeps the intimate and cozy atmosphere. Ew will be back and I highly recommend you...
