The Farmhouse Christiansburg, VA

On 4/15/2025 we were traveling through area for a VT College tour. We investigated restaurants in the area and saw ‘The Farmhouse’ restaurant listed on line and because of 4.7 review rating, we called and made a reservation for 8 at 6:30. We arrived by 6:30, were greeted and seated in room to left of greeter area.

We ordered meals and appetizer, received water, bread, and an appetizer within 35 min.. We asked for additional bread and requested that the children’s dishes be served as soon as they came out. At 7:20 - kids received their meals. We asked how long before our dishes would come out twice. Never got an answer. Never got more bread. Steak knives were delivered at 7:30. At 7:45 we asked our waitress what was going on - she never responded. She did keep our water glasses full!!

At 8:00 I walked around looking for any one who could give us an estimate on when we might eat. I saw another waiter and requested that he find out what was happening. We never received an explanation to the extreme wait. Kids had long completed their meals. I waited in hallway - the waiter I had asked came out and said our order was on the way.

Our food was delivered at 8:10!! Two orders of Fillet mignon, one order of Ahi Tuna, and a Bourbon Glazed Salmon and a Vegetarian Pasta dish. The steak dishes were to come with baked potato - they arrived with mashed and we were told ‘they’ put mashed on plate because there was still 6 min left for baked and that the baked would be sent out as soon as they were done. No one asked us if this was okay! The tuna was more than seared … The salmon sat in a puddle of sugar from the nasty overly sweetened ‘roasted’ carrots! The Pasta dish was fine.

I asked to speak to the Manager - Devin Whittaker. I asked twice before he showed up. I expressed how bad our over all experience was. The most unprofessional service manager I have ever met. He said he agreed we had terrible service. I also expressed how neither the service or the quality of food came close to meeting a 4.7 expectation.

He left. Waitress came through - we asked for check. We received baked potatoes at 8:30. The salmon we left untouched.

The final insult was the check was presented with a credit offered as a peace offering … meals credited were the children’s pasta dishes and our appetizer - in total less than 1 Adult meal. I cannot promote a restaurant like this. No information was ever...

Went here for dinner one night and breakfast for the next. For dinner I found the food a bit off. Examples of this; a steak ordered medium well came out very very rare. When sent back it was redelivered without the sauce and very well done. We asked for the sauce and after twenty minutes just decided the steak was never going to see that sauce even though we have asked two different people for the sauce. The brisket was very cold although it was tasty. Service was very slow and not very friendly.

Breakfast was much worse as we didn’t have a reservation. I get that a larger party without a reservation could be a problem but a little politeness and professionalism goes a long way. I waited for ten minutes at the hostess stand and never saw a person. I asked in the office if there was a hostess and was told one would be there. About five minutes later a waitress came out and asked me if I needed help. I said that we were trying to get breakfast. She told me they just closed the kitchen but she will see if they can accommodate us.

A couple minutes later an older woman came out and started yelling at me that I’m 40 minutes late for my reservation and I should not expect them to just wait for me. I’m standing there quite confused because I think she’s talking to someone else and she then says I could look at the Buffett and whatever is there I could eat but they have almost nothing on it. I’m still stunned until I realize that she is actually talking to me. I tell her I don’t have a reservation and she very rudely tells me that I could still go look at the Buffett. Needless to say we left and...

Everything was outstanding! We reserved the private dining room to host my dad’s 90th birthday. There were 18 of us and the staff set it up beautifully. They were all so pleasant and helpful. A few of us came early and decorated it for the birthday dinner. My dad had the best time. The whole family loved it- the private dining room was perfect for lots of conversation, toasts, and laughter. The views are stunning and the lodge so warm and welcoming. The food was amazing and everyone kept going on and on how delicious it all was. Chef Kevin Scott came out and chatted with us too. It was Friday so we had the buffet. Everything was delicious and fresh. We ordered a special chocolate cake in advance and it was fabulous too. Not a crumb left! Donna was our server and was incredible! So attentive and delightful. Be sure to check out the room full of original German Marquetry Wood Inlay artwork while you are there for a meal (go all the way to the right of the staff desk area). Highly recommend for any meal or special occasion. We want to say a huge THANK YOU to our friends at Graves for making this the best birthday...

Graves Mountain Lodge Dining! This was our first time as a family coming to Graves Mountain Apple Festival! We had made reservations but ended up going to eat sooner and were able to be seated quickly. The mountain views are gorgeous, and the festival was a blast! There were some younger staff members who seemed lost at times when up at the checkout counter. Others kept rotating out food, but the serving utensils needed to be cleaned between rotations. Overall the food is good, but the corn bread was dry like a desert. Highly recommend the fried chicken! The chicken is crispy and a light breading treatment. I had the hard cider which wasn’t anything special for a $9 glass. It was $25 per person for the buffet.

My friends and I didn't stay at the lodge but we found this place on Google and decided to have breakfast at the dining hall. Food was terrific! Farm fresh and served family style so everyone could have a little bit of everything. Everything tasted great but the grits and biscuits were my favorite, so savory. The staff were the kindest and most attentive folks. True Southern hospitality. Something us Jersey folks aren't always used to, haha. Hope to be back to the area again one day and would love to try dinner there. P.S. The views from there were spectacular.
