Kirschbaum’s Bakery: A Sweet Legacy Since 1953, where flavors bloom, In Western Springs, they fill the room. With golden pastries, cookies fine, Each bite whispers, “Take your time.” Traditions kneaded through each dough, Secrets passed from long ago. Poppyseed dreams and kolacky’s cheer, Bake a taste of yesteryear. The scent of cinnamon in the air, A hug of warmth, beyond compare. Staff with smiles, a community’s heart, Each treat a work of baker’s art. From custom cakes for life’s grand days, To simple joys in sweet displays. Generations return to savor, The timeless craft, their favorite flavor. So step inside, let joy unfold, In Kirschbaum’s, where stories are told. A bakery small, yet oh so grand, A cherished gem of Illinois land. This bakery is not just a place for exceptional baked goods like tea cookies, kolacky, and poppyseed pastries but also a cherished local institution known for its dedication to quality, tradition, and community involvement .

This was my first visit to this bakery. It was crowded when I went in at 8:30 am. I took a number and began to finalize my choices to buy. I mentioned that this was my first visit and the other customers began suggesting which items I should try. Everyone was so nice and welcoming. The staff were busy but helpful. I ended up buying a lot more than I needed but I had to buy some of the suggested items. I bought a chocolate frosted cake donut, some mini cheesecake cups, a fourth pound of the small cookies and a bag of onion buns. YUMMY! Everything was just delicious! I used the onion buns to make a sandwich for my lunch and I ate my chocolate frosted donut. I would recommend if you are in the area to stop in and try something. I will be back for sure. They have donuts, pies, cookies, and so many more items.

Totally Old School, and bless them for it. There is literally no other bakery like this. The chocolate doughnuts (OMG!), the coffee cakes (ALL of them, whether cheese or cherry- filled). They’re still baking fresh every day, staying true to quality and value, and have been a neighborhood staple for half a century. The staff are lovely, with a smile or a kind word even during a rush. Places like this should be given a Congressional Medal!

Extremely unsatisfied with your establishment when picking up my birthday cake this morning!!!!!!!!!

Back on April 7th when I placed the order in-store I specifically told your employee:

No border on top and no border on the bottom of my 9 in plain white cake!!

NO BORDERS!!!!! PLAIN WHITE CAKE!!!! He wrote it down on the receipt.

This afternoon at around 12:30pm after waiting in line for 15 minutes, the woman brought my box out to me with BOTH BORDERS!!!!! She attempted to bring "back" to the baker which apparently wasn't there.

I paid for a cake that was NOT WHAT I ASKED FOR!!!!!! When I asked for my money back, she said she has to call the owner, Penny.

Within minutes she says how they can offer me 20% off / back?! Unbelievable!

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!!!!!!!! This is not the design I asked for!!!! And now I'm stuck paying for an ugly cake with borders.

After all these years in business, what a shame to not refund your customer and attempt to make it better!!!!!!

You completely ruined my birthday!

I will tell everyone about what a terrible experience this was and to never give you another penny...

I have been going to Kirschbaum's over 40 years. I have thoroughly enjoyed their bakery items, especially their white on white buttercream celebration cake. Unfortunately, things change for various reasons. I purchased various items in 2022 thinking maybe my taste buds went fishing without me a time or two. My Christmas visit convinced me, unfortunately, it has not been my taste buds. I was disappointed in the quality, mouth feel and taste in the products I know and used to love. Their appearance is most deceiving. The "buttercream" icing I have snitched from around a cake in the past, is now greasy and tasteless. The Stolen I purchased at Christmas has gone from a fruited bread to a sparse chopped raisin sugar-frosted bread loaf with half green and red candied cherries decorating the top. The last straw for me was the purchase of 3 sugar, 3 chocolate chip, 3 spice and 3 toffee chip cookies that were sold out of the fancy butter cookie case, on the bottom, left. I paid over $12 for those cookies that turned out to be totally tasteless. I have to find...
