TDT BBQ — Restaurant in Mableton

Something important and spiritual and cosmically significant just happened to me, and I need to share the experience. I walked into a gas station BBQ spot and my life changed. When I talk about my life to friends from now on, there will only be two times: the time BEFORE TDT BBQ, and the time after. First, let me clear something up. This is not really a gas station BBQ spot. This is a BBQ spot that happens to be connected to a gas station. One conjures up images of lukewarm meat under heat lamps next to slushies and hot dogs, and the other is REAL AND AUTHENTIC SMOKED MEAT FRESH OFF THE COALS. Shombe greeted and WELCOMED me as I approached his counter. I ordered, we had a couple of laughs, and I collected my HEAPING PORTIONS of takeout and drove home. When I opened up the boxes at home, the smell.... it was like that cartoon where the aroma of something literally lifts the character off the ground and floats them to where the food is. This happened to my 6yo daughter when she caught a whiff. What happened next can only be described as a murder scene because of all the bones... My daughter and I DEMOLISHED wings, ribs, mac & cheese, and green beans! The dry rub was amazing but not over-powering, the pork ribs were melt-in-your-mouth tender. And Shombe cooks the wings WHOLE. Yes, WHOLE wings. I ordered 10, but ended up with what I would have previously described as 20. I do not say this lightly, so get ready (read my other reviews for reference)... This is easily the best BBQ I have ever had. Beats DBA, Williamson Bros, Fox Bros, Jim N Nicks... you name it. When I asked my daughter how she was enjoying it, she got a little emotional and said, "Daddy, I am a little sad because nothing else I eat will taste this good. Ever." ...

The king of beards Ray attended to me and was polite n conversant. I ordered a two meat combo with sides, Brisket & Ribs, mybsides were Mac & Cheese n Turkey/ Baked beans, as they were out of Collards. I'm motivated to write because the RIBS not only was the BEST I've had since leaving Texas, the quality n texture of the pork was premium!!! As it was my 1st. visit Ray gifted me a Peach 🍑Cobbler ( Nice C/S move🎖)I got the fatty side of the Brisket, tender n melt in your mouth good-- typically I prefer a combination of the lean n fat, but this hot tender, smoky protein was perfectly cooked, I just got right into it in the 🚗 The RIBS was a work of Culinary perfection. Currently a slab of ribs is $32.00, budget permitting if you ever wanted to impress your Woman or Friends this would be the 🎟tix WoW!!! The Mac n Cheese needed a pinch of salt to.boast it's flavor profile n the baked beans n tad too sweet for my taste yet eatable. The real opportunity to raise the bar would be the Barbecue sauce ( as a Chef I understand COST) but the pump action juice missed the mark for me. Thank Gawd the meats didn't need it!! Ray forgot my corn bread, so I can't comment on it, but he gets a fat tip the next time I visit for that order!!!✨️🏆✨️🏅My visit was the afternoon of 5/3/23 I'll review the smoked Wings! I read a news article about the lottery luck of a gas station, & there was mention & praise of a restaurant in the gas station that piqued my interest, so I looked it up & saw pics of the best looking food. You can't have food look that good & it not be good. I drove out of my way to try it out & apparently other people read the same article that I did & got the same feelings I got. I got the pick 2; ribs & brisket with mac'n'cheese & green beans (they were out of collards😥). I also got a side of yams & peach cobbler. Everything was fanfreakingtastic!!! It was everything I hoped & dreamed it would be!! The meat had the ideal tenderness. The spice & smoke profile was great. The sauce is sweet & smokey, but it isn't overly sweet. I very much like the sauce. The meat is great with or without sauce, so there lies a dilemma in that. I spent a little piece, but I eat a lot. It was worth every penny I spent & I'll make that out of the way drive over & over again! Looks like TDT won the lottery with that...
