Whew... So, I'm guessing that on the day (being a Sunday) that I visited, the establishment may have a long rush period and, every now and again, a bit of downtime. I probably would have not even noticed had all eyes not been on me as I approached the counter to place my order. There was only a family of 3 in the dining area, a car leaving drive thru, and my family of 3 being served to go between 4:30 - 5:30 pm. There was a minimum of 6 - 8 employees, standing/leaning or sitting around on objects that weren't table chairs... just looking. With the exception of 3 (that I saw) actually doing something, and 1 of those were taking my order. Now, before I went to the counter, I went to the restroom, and it needed MUCH attention. So after being stared down, for whatever reason, and thinking about those toilets, I implied, "Y'all must not have anything else better to do? Everybody just sitting around, staring at me and s*." Now, my feelings weren't hurt over it. Actually gave me leeway to pick a little. All in fun, of course. I only say this as a concern as to why there are so many employees on the clock if business is slow. And if it is necessary, why is that time not being utilized productively. Perhaps by cleaning and sanitizing common areas used by so many people. The young lady with the glasses was sweet. So was the lady with the long braid. Their service was great, and so were their attitudes!
To whom replied to my review:
As long as the Carters are still around, I will always be a supporter of all establishments. One bad apple will never deter my feelings towards Mr. Carter, or all he's established over the decades. I was once an employee in my teenage years, and before then, he was a great man to my grandparents when I was only a child. All things need a little touching up every now...
Read moreWell, this place has wonderful reviews, so we decided to give it a try. Was really hoping for a better visit. We walked in and the place seemed not the cleanest but not bad, we ordered and I asked if they had cheese fries and the man said we'll we can add a slice of cheese and put it in the microwave.... well lol I said oh that's okay, no worries." We ordered a #1 & #2 and a kids chicken tenders. All came with seasoned fries. Went to find a table that was clean, and we ended up at one that wasn't so bad we just wiped it off ourselves. Once our food came out. My burger was wrong, so I took it back. And I always assume I will be getting a new fresh burger and fries. Since they took back my whole basket. Well, 1 min later, same basket, same fries, and same patty with the lettuce scrapped off. Well, almost off, but hey, a new bun.... I'm sorry that's just not okay and really gross, especially if you hate lettuce and tomatoes. I just ate two bites, and I couldn't even eat it. It was cold, no flavor in the meat like none, and all I could taste was the dry bun with lettuce and tomatoes . The fries were literally the seasoned frozen fries from Walmart, and they were not even cooked all the way. My husband's burger , just Mayo and cheese simple . He ate his, but he said it had no flavor at all, only tasted the cheese and bread?? Like how? And my sons tenders were just the frozen tenders. Blah took two bites, and we just threw it all away. How can this place known for the best burgers be so bad? Literally nothing. I mean, nothing we ordered was homemade , literally frozen food all the way around. I'm just disappointed 38 bucks for crappy food. I don't know if it's just this one in Madisonville or all of them. But it's definitely not worth...
Read moreDo not miss this place! If you're craving a real, old school, homestyle burger and places like DQ and Whataburger aren't hitting the target, this is where you need to plant yourself. The logo for the restaurant changed, making this appear like it might be a craft burger joint, but I promise it's the same Texas Burger that used to exist in the early 80's with the "Red Top" logo on the side of the building. They were a Dairy Queen competitor who also were known for serving real ice cream as well as burgers, fries, and onion rings. The Red Top logos are no longer part of the livery, but this place serves the best dang homestyle burger money can buy. The buns are perfectly toasted and buttery, the meat tastes like real meat from a grill, the cheese is nice and melty, and they serve it on a plastic basket with a wax paper wrapper. It's like everything that was great about fast food burgers before the fake food trend took over everything. I would literally drive the 1.5 hours from Houston just to eat here because no other burger in my town would ever measure up to this. The interior of the restaurant isn't like the old style Dairy Queens anymore, but it has a nice retro vibe, they keep the ac cold (as it should be in Texas), and there are usually old, retired folks eating here. That's how you know it's legit, and that's probably also why the Jack in the Box next door ended up closing down. They parked themselves next to a legendary burger joint and couldn't hang with the freshness it offers. Go here now, you won't...
