Update: Gave this place another try because of some of the other reviews. So we again ordered the Mama's Supreme, but we added extra cheese, as another reviewer had recommended getting extra cheese. Pizza came out with very little cheese on it. I asked the gent who brought out the pizza if this pizza had extra cheese, and he responded that it did have extra cheese, and then walked away. It was not very cheesy at all. And to add insult to injury, the crust was also burnt. Not worth going here. I've been here twice, and both times were disappointments. We'll find a better pizza somewhere else.
1st Review: Been searching for the best pizza in York County, and read some good reviews on a place called Mamma's Pizza at this location, but apparently it has either changed names or changed ownership, and it's now called the Heart of Sicily. So we gave it a try based upon some good reviews. While we were ordering, I saw one of the guys pull a pizza out of the oven that looked fantastic - just what I was looking for. It had lots of toppings & loaded with cheese. The cheese was all melted, and just starting to carmelize a little on top. It looked like a great pizza, so I was sure we had found our spot for the best pizza in York County. Sadly, we were disappointed when our pizza arrived. We had ordered the Mamma Special, which has just about everything on it, but apparently, comes with very little cheese. It had a lot of toppings (mushrooms, onions, green peppers, sausage, bacon, ham, etc....), which was great, and the crust was actually pretty good. But it lacked the cheese that I had seen on the other pizza coming out of the oven. Turned out, the guy who made that pizza served it up to a group of 4, and then he joined them in enjoying it. So, they know how to make a great pizza, but apparently, they only do that for themselves, or their friends. The average customer coming in off the street to try this place, gets an okay pizza, but with very little cheese on it. And when I'm paying just shy of $20 for a pizza, I expect it to be a good pizza. If I wanted a cheap pizza that skimps on the toppings or cheese, I'd order one from Domino's or Little Ceasar's. And while this place is a step up from the likes of those 2 chains, it's not a big difference. So my search for the best pizza in York...
Read moreI am from Brooklyn NY. I lived there for 60 yrs so I know GREAT pizza. HOORAY!!! Pizza at The Heart of Sicily is Bklyn pizza in PA!!! I FINALLY found the best pizza EVER in PA!!! They make FRESH sauce and FRESH pizza dough EVERY DAY!!! I stopped eating pizza crust in Bklyn MANY MANY yrs ago. The Heart of Sicily's pizza crust is PHENOMENAL!!! It has just a tiny touch of sweetness to it that makes it the BEST pizza crust I have ever had!!! No kidding!!! And the size of the slices r just as big if not bigger than Bklyn pizza! I took my grandson there for lunch and by the time we left the place was PACKED!!! AND many people came in to pick up orders too!!! There r plenty of seats to eat there. They have an online menu so u can order that way or by phone. The staff is sooo...friendly too! One of the cooks/chefs call my 5 yr old granddaughter princess! I take her there once a wk for pizza after school. She was born in PA and has had Bklyn pizza (I actually bought Bklyn pizza home to PA). She also says the pizza at The Heart of Sicily is as good as Bklyn pizza! My sister who still lives in NYC loves their pizza too! She also had a hamburger from there and said it was REALLY good! It has a new owner for almost 2 yrs now and prices r reasonable. The parking lot is in back of the store. So PLEASE do urself a favor and try their food. U will NOT b disappointed!...
Read moreOne word... Legit. Or maybe it's one abbreviation? How about Authentic? Anyway, this was exactly like our favorite New York pizza joint!!! I should have taken a picture, but I downed it too quickly. We haven't lived in New York for over 10 years, but ever since then, we have longed for pizza just like we remember. .. where the crust is simultaneously crispy and soft... where the cheese-to-sauce ratio doesn't require ordering extra sauce or some kind of dipping cup... where the sauce is a little sweet but certainly doesn't taste like someone just dumped a heap of sugar in the mix... where the cheese is baked to a point where it is cheesy without being a stringy mess... and where the seasoning isn't considered a condiment or add-on but nor is it overwhelming. Finally, we fond that pie once again! The place is small and a family-style operation, so yes, it could possibly use a face-lift and what some may consider "professional" wait staff, but the cheese pizza was incredible, and we felt perfectly comfortable dining in. They have real heart and character. We are so happy we stumbled...
