I am giving a full 2 stars ONLY because of Heidi's boss who attempted to make things right over the phone(not sure if it was a manager or owner because they were not present). I appreciated that gesture very much! Had I been basing this experience solely on our server, it would be one star.
Heidi was a terrible server. Rude the minute I walked in the door with my disabled friend. Maybe she was hung over from the Christmas holiday, or had a very valid reason to not want to be at work that afternoon. Regardless, there was absolutely NO EXCUSE to treat us in the manor in which she did.... THE ENTIRE LENGTH OF OUR VISIT.
I was taking my friend out to enjoy a nice meal. This was supposed to be a relaxed, enjoyable venture. It was clear that Heidi thought of us as a thorn in her side. She had a scowl on her face the entire time. She was short, rude, clearly didnt want to make eye contact, and even got a little bit of eye roll going. I felt extremely uncomfortable the entire time. I asked her what the soup was and you'd think I had asked her something completely inappropriate and troublesome.
I had to go over to a different table- myself- to grab a drink menu and our napkins and utensils. I asked for a Jalapeno Margarita. This was when things really got going. It was not a Margarita. It was jalapeno and straight booze. The drink wasn't made poorly by any means; it just was NOT A MARGARITA. Had I wanted a Martini, this drink would have been fabulous!
Normally, I would not send a drink back. I usually just count it as a loss and move on. However, given how extensively RUDE Heidi had been since the get-go, and what a poor experience this was becoming, I was hoping I could enjoy at least one part if it. I didn't care to waste an extra 8-10 dollars on an experience that was already Not worth the money I was shelling out! (Bacon was burned and burger was on the cusp of being dry)
Although I knew it wouldn't go over well with the Grinch, I respectfully told Heidi my feelings and explained that the alcohol content was just too strong. I had been expecting a margarita, not a martini. She took this very personally(I realized later that she made the drink). She didnt apologize for the misunderstanding, didn't take my drink back, nor ask if there was anything she could do. She just glared at me and walked away.
After receiving my bill, I saw the drink was not taken off. I approached Heidi at the bar and asked her if she could please remove it. She began lecturing me about how "they dont just take drinks off because someone doesn't like it, and I was the only one she knew of who had a problem with it". Yep. Professional, class act, Heidi. The one positive thing I will say about her, is that she DID offer to call her boss to override it. She didn't do this without making a snooty, stabbing comment to end, of course! Shocker.
During this entire visit I was very pleasant, I didn't once raise my voice, and both of us tried smiling at her and being friendly- hoping perhaps that might be reciprocated by her.
NOT ONCE. NOT ACCEPTABLE for someone in the hospitality industry. We all have bad days, but you dont take it out on patrons. We did nothing to deserve her disdain.
As an owner and manager, I hope both take this customer experience very seriously. No one should ever be treated the way we were. Heidi definitely needs some customer service training, and a big 'ol attitude check. If she could get that under control, she could be an...
Read moreDecided to host our 10 year high school reunion at a local maple grove bar rather than downtown to support a MG bar/restaurant. The owner of the Maple Tavern is one of the most incompetent, horrible businessmen I have ever had to deal with. Not only did he refuse to speak to us, meet with us, or answer any of our questions after we had signed a contract with him to host our event there, he broke our contract on top of everything the day of our event. The restaurant had experienced some damage to the room but had assured us that it would all be fixed and taken care of before our event and that we had nothing to worry about. We were supposed to get into the room at 9am on Saturday but we were told the night before our event that we would not be allowed into the space until 4pm on the day of our event because he had scheduled a construction crew to be there that whole day. On top of that, when we asked a staff member for Chad’s number or to have him call us, we were told that he would rather us cancel our event than have to deal with speaking to us. And this is 20 hours before our event where we would’ve spending over $2k at their restaurant/bar. I have never had to deal with a more selfish and irresponsible business “owner” before who was perfectly fine treating local MG alumni so terribly the week of their event. I will not be frequenting this establishment ever again and will make sure to let friends and family in the surrounding area know of this treatment so that others don’t have to go through the stress and terrible treatment that we endured with hosting our event here. The only positive note to our event at Maple Tavern was our bartender and bouncer who were both extremely helpful in getting our event ready before...
Read moreI’ve been to the Maple Tavern about 20 times this summer. Most of the time I’ve gone to listen to LIVE music which is offered Thursday - Sunday. Several positive notes are worth mentioning.
First, the food is excellent. I’ve ordered salads, burgers, wings - and everything in between. Not once have I been disappointed with the selection, presentation or quality. Always delicious? (Waffle fries with a side of “food crack” sour cream- out of the world). Everything on their menu is excellent.
Second, service at the Tavern has always been friendly and conscientious. I’ve always found the wait staff to be personal and fun. I’ve gotten to know a couple of them and they are quality humans. Very easy to see how hard they work.
The atmosphere on the patio in the summertime is outstanding. The music they bring in makes for a perfect combination. JON1John2 is my favorite but I’ve never been disappointed. The performers are all good musicians and do a nice job of catering to the crowds and creating a fun atmosphere.
More recently, I’ve had the chance to get to know the owner. He is a straight shooter who really cares about his business. I’ve found him to be engaging and a good listener. He really wants the Maple Tavern to be a great place for everyone - including families.
If you’ve never been - get there for a show Thursday - Sunday or go watch a game and treat yourself to some wings. You won’t regret it. Like I said, I’ve been there 20 times and I’ll be...
