Read moreMy partner and I reserved a table on the patio at 700p for a recent trip to the Keys, and I'm so glad we did. BTW, it's a small space, so do try and make a reservation in advance.
While the restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside (it's in a small hotel complex called "Rainbow Bend" - but easy to find with your GPS, it's right on US1 - the deck overlooking the water was lovely. All through the meal we enjoyed watching herons and egrets hunt for fish (sorry, fish!) and enjoying the fresh air.
The welcome from the staff was very nice - they even moved a table around to give us a prime spot - and we felt like old friends, not first-time visitors.
The food is definitely much fancier than typical Keys fare, and priced accordingly. With that said, entrees come with vegetables, bread, and a salad, so you don't have to spend a bunch of money if you don't want to. While the food is fancy, it is not stuffy at all... just classy.
The wine list is pretty interesting, and they have several nice choices by the glass. Someone was complaining about the pour in another review - they must be on crack :) because they were quite generous.
We tried a few things: the onion soup, shrimp scampi, Filet Medallions A La "Beurre Noir", and their catch of the day (Hogfish), in a francese sauce. Oh, and a not-to-be-forgotten Key Lime and Raspberry desert. Overall, each dish was very good, though the sauce for the medallions (perfectly cooked and tender) was a little bit of a miss for me (maybe I was expecting something slightly different). The hogfish was AMAZING, perfectly cooked, and accompanied by really nice veg.
The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming, the views stellar, and the staff lovely. Truly a good way to spend an evening. This isn't fast food - slow down, take a breath, and just enjoy.
A thoroughly pleasant experience thanks to the Chef and her team (I'm talking about...
Read moreThe place claims to be an ‘upscale fine dining’ it’s a blatant lie. Cafe is located in a rundown motel with unpaved parking lot. To find the cafe one passes through a dumpster and toilets area which smell accordingly. A narrow rickety wooden stair leads to a second floor where a dilapidated door opens up to a the cafe itself. The place pretends to a shabby chic, but it’s just shabby and doesn’t look very clean. The narrow open air walkway along the facade serves as a ‘patio’ where one has to squeeze past tightly jammed tables pushing the diners. We had a reservation, planning to celebrate my husband birthday and had a 7 lb Maltese Service dog with I’d and papers sitting in a carrier. No one greeted us upon arrival. After 20 minutes uncertainly waiting next to a table crowded with a variety of opened half-full wind bottles there appeared an unfriendly unsmiling water. He made us squeeze by the ‘terrace’ walkway to a table at the far end it was open to the wind from all sides. This was Saturday April 12th and the wind was 20 miles per hour. We explained that we cannot possibly stay there and asked if we can sit inside, there were plenty of free tables. The water just shrugged and said ‘not with a dog’ turned around and walked away. We left. Honestly, it was for the best. The place didn’t look clean and with service like that and bathrooms somewhere downstairs around the corner our birthday celebration wouldn’t be any good. We went to Plaza Grill Restaurant instead and had a wonderful birthday dinner. Stay away from this...
