i have gone to this restaurant on many different occasions and everytime i’ve gone there has always been a problem. Whether it’s lack of hospitality or professionalism. On this particular day I went with a group of 12 including myself. When we arrived we were waiting for the rest of our party at the table we were seated at, we got seated with haste and a waiter came to us within minutes asking us when we were ready to order. After we were done ordering we went and hung out in the pool while we waited for our food, the pool reeked of pure bleach but within 30-45 minutes our food was out so we had went to eat. A person from my group had ordered a kids mac and cheese that had a piece of hair in it which we didn’t bring speak on it with any worker because we didn’t want problems , on top of that we were missing food which is fine because these things take time but when our waiter came back the case was that she forgot , she was kind enough to get it to me with haste when she realized her mistake which i appreciated, after a couple of minutes my party and i went back into the pool to enjoy the amenities provided, after 30 minutes we were told by our waiter to pack up our things and leave because the place was getting busy and they needed our table. My party and I complied to her demands and went to pay our bill to which we left a tip. Our waiter came to give us our card after some minutes and interrogated us for a larger tip. She stated that it was obligated and continued to pressure us on the matter. We also brought of the fact that she was rude to us when asking us to go and why she should expect a larger tip, she responded denying all “allegations” . I believe that she could’ve been way more professional and if tips are obligated it should be stated upon arrival. In addition I believe the employees of this establishment are very close minded because we are paying customers, a family who came to enjoy the amenities and opportunities that Sunset grille offers, but we were treated as if we weren’t enough because we didn’t give a large enough tip. I wouldn’t expect a regular...
Read moreHard pass. With several alternative 4/5 star options within the area - it's not a place I would recommend. Which is frustrating because it could and should be absolutely great just based on their prime location alone.
Here's what's wrong...
TL;DR - Unorganized staff, long/inconsistent wait, pricey drinks, lousy food, dirty.
1.) They are super short-staffed, but also super unorganized. We arrived at 6:00pm (party of 2) were given a wait time of 10-20 minutes, which ended up being well over an hour. When we got seated...the poor waitress was a hot mess and was juggling too many tables (not her fault). So if you go be prepared to be patient and don't make plans to be anywhere else.
2.) Not super clean. May relate to #1, but this place needs some serious scrubbing. The bar area in particular was gross. Both sinks in the men's bathroom were not functioning and it looked like hell. Everything is sticky. The menus should be burned in a bonfire.
3.) Expensive gimmicky drinks with no prices posted anywhere. If you get excited about souvenir plastic cups - go for it. But I at least want to know I'm spending $20 bucks for a Pina Colada before I commit to it. There is a cool assortment of drinks which could be a highlight and a massive draw, but a little transparency would go a long way.
4.) The food is meh... just okay. The menu is split between common local fare and a sushi menu. But it's not too creative and there's no standout dish that they do better than anyone else. Portions are on the smaller side and outside of offering sushi there is nothing remarkable here.
5.) It's super hot inside. Half of the ceiling fans were broken/inoperative. With zero air movement and a full dining floor it makes for some serious hot & thick air.
On a positive note - the sunset view is very, very good. But, there are restaurants you can get a view like this and have a better meal. Try Fish Company as an alternative. It's just a few miles...
Read moreThis is a place with a great view and the opportunity to not spend a lot of money. But I agree with someone else who said it’s pretty much a sports bar otherwise. We ordered four things but not from the entrée menu My sister ordered a martini a specific way, it came wrong. As quickly as he could..The Server bought a new one. We waited a while for these drinks to begin with.
I got a couple of tasty but watery drinks for seven dollars because of happy hour and decided I didn’t trust the $30 fish dishes.( I suspect That maybe that was a mistake it for me in these reviews people like the entrées! )So we ordered starters. Queso with beef and chips. Not at all what I expected from having this in Mexico. This, Was like cheese whiz imitation some thing. With pieces of beef in it (I felt like I was going to get a Clogged artery but it was tasty) The boom boom shrimp for $10 was very good. French fries with cheese and seasonings, was a huge portion and it was OK but nothing special
BEWARE Chicken wings. Here’s a misunderstanding which actually made my order in edible. They say they have boneless chicken wings ….and breaded. I ordered boneless chicken wings jerk style, but they came breaded and seasoned with Jamaican seasoning but very dry and no sauce. I ordered boneless chicken wings Jamaican style because it mentioned the word sauce. And I did not use the word breaded I hope someone from management is reading this Because the menu is either mistaken.. or misleading and /or the waiter has no idea what’s flying..Speaking of the waiter, racing around, maybe taking care of too many tables but service wasn’t good. He did try but it wasn’t good service. In retrospect I should’ve had that dry practically in edible chicken wings taken off the bill
You might do OK here. I suspect it’s hit and miss. Really...
