We recently traveled from Tennessee to Michigan to visit family and friends. During a day trip out sightseeing, we were looking for a place to get a bite to eat to start the day.
We saw Block Brewing as we were driving through Howell and thought it looked like an optimal place to stop.
We arrived 10 minutes after they opened, so our party of six was easily able to get a table right away.
Since it was our first time there, our waitress was helpful and patient with us as we browsed both the drink and food menu.
My wife ordered their Tangerine Wheat beer and absolutely loved it. She liked it so much that she inquired about buying it in a six-pack to take with us. Unfortunately, they didn't have that beer available on the day we visited. We did end up buying some beer to take with us, though, including the Guava Vanilla Gose, which actually has a picture of Gozer from Ghostbusters on the can.
As for the food, everything we had was fantastic.
Do yourself a favor and get the Pepper-Jack Crab Soup. It is amazing. My wife and I ended up sharing their chicken tenders for our actual meal. They were excellent. I used the sweet BBQ sauce, one of the four different sauces available on the table, to dip my fries and tenders in. That stuff is spot on.
Our friends both ordered a burger. I now regret not getting one because when they came out, they looked and smelled amazing.
Even my son, who is a picky eater, ate all of his Soft Pretzel sticks.
Most of the items on the menu are pricy, so if you plan to go, keep that in mind. That's not a knock on Block Brewing because the quality of food you get definitely reflects the price.
Again, we arrived right when they opened, so it was a laid-back atmosphere. However, given the size of the place, it could get a little louder as the day progresses.
An excellent experience for us and a place...
Read moreDISAPPOINTMENT! After enjoying this establishment for several years, I feel that something must be said. Over the past several months, it would appear that the kitchen staff has lost all sense of pride in their work. It started several months ago when we went for dinner and my daughter ordered a Cesar salad with chicken. The dish that we received was a bowl of rusty lettuce, little dressing, and a few pieces of chicken placed in the bottom of the bowl. I asked the manager how is it that this dish was allowed to reach a customers table without being noticed, nobody had an answer, and no consideration was offered. Even after the replacement salad was delivered to the table 15 minutes after everyone had completed their meals.
Last night we went there for a special dinner, I ordered a cheeseburger, cooked medium with raw onions. Once again, I returned the lettuce because it was rusty. Further to this, my burger was cook rare. I politely sent it back to be prepared the way I had ordered it (medium). Since the restaurant was not very busy, I could not understand why it was taking so long to cook me another burger. I finally approached my waitress and asked her to cancel my order. This must have upset her because the manager approached my table to get an understanding of the situation, not that I wanted to explain it again. Anyhow, the manager was sorry and regretted the issue. I explained to him that I had no issue with the wait staff, she was wonderful, but the kitchen is the major issue. I could have understood if the place was packed and people were running around, but this was not the case. I am sad to say, that with all of the different dinning venues popping up in the area I would be concerned for Block Brewing’s continued success. Again, great beer, wonderful staff, and kitchen staff needs to address...
Read moreI ate dinner at the Brighton location last night with my Fiance in hope that this would be the place that we would host our rehearsal dinner. I'm definitely glad we came to try it out because it was overall the worst meal and service i've ever had eating out. First, when the waitress came to our table, I told her I had Celiac and could not ingest gluten at all, which she said no problem at all. I went on to order a cider which I have always had at other restaurants and as I was putting the drink up to my mouth, I noticed that it had a different smell to it. Turns out when my fiance tasted it to double check, it was actually a beer instead. I could have gotten horribly sick and when I told the waitress what she served me, all she said was oh no, sorry. No sympathy what so ever. She did comp my cider, but almost contaminating a person that has Celiac is the absolute worst thing someone could ever do. Then, going onto dinner, I thought that ordering their pulled pork would be a good option but I was very wrong. It was so watery and lacked a lot of flavor so I hardly ate any of it. I told the server my concerns and she just said oh okay, i'll tell the chef. Honestly, she really could use some training in how to properly take care of your guests. I was a server for 5 years and being in the customer service industry, I get mistakes happen and food isn't always perfect, but this experience was by far one that I will not forget. For these reasons, I will not be hosting my rehearsal dinner here or recommending this...
