We arrived at the restaurant and found that it was brightly lit and had a festive ambience. While situated directly on HWY 265, it has an āoff the beaten pathā feel to it.
We were greeted by an attentive and friendly server, Amanda. She gave us a brief rundown of the restaurant and the food that was offered, including the fact that everything was made from scratchā¦!
The chips seemed a bit stale but the salsa made up for it. The spiciest salsa available was very good and full of flavor. It was not as spicy as Iāve enjoyed at other establishments.
We ordered jalapeƱo poppers which came out piping hot. The cream cheese and bacon bit mix was very gooey and delicious. The outside of the jalapeƱo popper was breaded and fried. The appetizer was accompanied by a small serving of ranch dip.
I ordered the ācamarones a la diablaā. The main dish was served in a small, shallow bowl. It was extremely flavorful but not overpoweringly spicy. A cup of cooked rice and beans, served apart on the platter, also accompanied the shrimp. To my surprise, a small salad, complete with sliced cucumbers and radishes was served with the main dish. The salad was garnished with two types of dressing that appeared to be both and a house made guacamole sauce.
My wife had the steak chimichanga. According to her, it, too, was extremely flavorful. It did not contain a lot of cheese as many other places put in the chimichanga. It was also served with beans, rice and a salad. My wife enjoyed my salad as much as she did hers.
We also discovered that they offer Dr Pepper in the bottleā¦from Mexico in addition to Coke and Diet Coke in the bottle. I will be enjoying a Dr Pepper in the bottle the next time we go eat there, and there will be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFood wasn't bad, but both my and my mother's orders were either messed up, or the menu is misleading.
Mom ordered a taco salad. The menu on their website says "Steak or chicken. Flour tortilla deep fried into a bowl filled beans, lettuce, pico de gallo, guacamole sauce, sour cream, and queso cheese." She also asked for beans and pico to be left off. She got her food, and it was a taco salad bowl with lettuce and meat in it, and the beans and pico had not been taken off. There was also ranch dressing in it (???). She sent it back and had to ask for cheese, since the waitress said "it doesn't normally come with cheese on it." Directly contradicting the menu. We did not ask, but we were not offered a discount or anything.
I ordered the California nachos. They were decent, but they did not have jalapenos on them, like the menu said they would. Not a huge deal, but it would have been nice.
Our waitress was wonderful though! She was very attentive, made sure everything was okay, and apologized multiple times for the mistake.
Not a bad place, just very weird that their dishes do not match their menu, and there was not much effort made to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy husband and I went to Chiqui's last night for our first dinner of the new year. And we were thoroughly glad we did. This is a restaurant with good atmosphere, great service and amazing food! It's a family run business and the owner came to make sure we were happy and satisfied! We did Tallgrass with her for quite a long time! She's a very sweet and gracious lady. Make sure you ask about off menu items. We did and ordered the posole which was amazing! My husband ordered the fish tacos with buttered rice and refried beans. I can't remember the name of what I ordered but it was absolutely delicious! The salsa was very flavorful! And then we had the tres leches cake which sent my taste buds into heaven! The choclate flan was also super delicious! Chiqui's is...
