Wow! What a delight to find a scratch resteraunt close by that really delivers on food quality. Try the scotch egg and bang bang shrimp for a real treat. All around, I had a good experience and highly recommend the Sumneytown hotel. (See next) Revisited the splendid Sumneytown hotel for a full dinner foray on this occasion 8/31/24. Words can not describe the joy that I felt from the time of arrival until my departure. Beginning with the absolute impeccable service provided by our wait person, Michelle, and the supporting staff, there was no reason to find even the slightest fault at the service level. What a pleasure to be catered to by a highly professional staff. They were able to accomplish the most important aspect of any meal service, which seems to be devoid of most dining establishments, that being approaching your diners, at the proper moment after meal service, and asking "Is everything okay with your meal." What a pleasure! My accomplice and I enjoyed the Calamari dish, which struck notes of "please bring me more." I then had the cumin encrusted atlanic cod with garlic spinach and a roasted corn sauce. The chef should be carried on the shoulders of the town folk, and fireworks should be lit nightly. Perfection doesn't adequately describe how well this dish was prepared. My companion opted for the grilled chicken sandwich rather than an entrée due to her voracious attack of the Calamari. This foodie expressed a look of shock upon devouring her choice. "That was one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten." High praise at the age of 61. I've droned on much too long already. From soup to nuts, the Sumneytown hotel is worthy of a Michelin star in this reviewers opinion, and I hope anyone interested in a fine meal, at a fine resteraunt, will take the opportunity to try this hidden gem. God bless the Sumneytown hotel.

Came here for dinner with my girlfriend. I liked that they had NA beer on the menu, and an NA cocktail. The poutine was pretty good, though only one side had cheese curds, I would have liked a little more for the price. The bread to start the meal came with a nice butter and two types of rolls, awesome. I thought the rest of the food was just okay. I had their queso fried chicken sandwich and neither I or my girlfriend picked up that it was queso. It was a bit spicy but kinda had a sausage gravy vibe? Too much sauce. It wasn't bad, but certainly a lot to take on. The black bean burger could have used a little more of the toppings though. Service was decent, no complaints with regards to that. Everything was good, and it's a great place for the area for a date night, but with the prices being what they were, I wouldn't come back.

It was our first time trying the Sumneytown Hotel. Hands down amazing! The ambience was relaxing, and the building is beautiful. The food and service were phenomenal! The flavors of the food just went together so well and the presentation was beautiful! Also, the clams were cleaned thoroughly, not grainy at all! Great wine options too. Our server, Jamie, was very nice and extremely attentive. Her service was top notch. She gave very good recommendations on the food and was very knowledgeable. I highly recommend coming here for flavorful food, a relaxing night, incredible service and good drinks! We will be back! We had: Burrata Salad (Special) Cilantro and Jalapeño Clams (Special) Goat Cheese Bites Sweet Potato Gnocchi Hot Chicken Sandwich

I really didn’t want to have to write this review, but I feel that I need to so some of these items can be addressed. We had reservations for 4 this past Saturday night. We were told our table wasn’t ready and that we could wait in the bar. It was standing room only in the bar so we had a stand and wait in the foyer. (No seats there) We waited in the foyer for almost 15 minutes after the hostess said “are you number 22?” I said no and again told her what our name was and that we had reservations for 4 at 6:30. Then she said our table was ready. Apparently our table had been ready all along and she didn’t realize it?! No one came out of the dining room during those 15 minutes so we knew the table had been ready. So we wasted 15 minutes standing in the foyer.

I ordered a Sprite to drink and I was brought club soda. I said some thing to the server and then she brought me the correct drink.

When the server took our order, I ordered the NY strip steak which comes with sautéed spinach. I asked if the spinach could be replaced with another vegetable such as sautéed mushrooms and she said sure, she didn’t think that would be a problem. When the meal came out, there was the spinach. I asked her if substitutions weren’t allowed and she had no idea what I was talking about. I reminded her I asked her if I could have a different vegetable and she said she completely forgot all about it, but did not offer to get me a different vegetable. I figure if I’m paying $32 for an entrée I could at least substitute another vegetable? Also, the mashed potatoes that were served with my steak were ice cold as well as my husbands broccoli was ice cold. I don’t mean warm; I mean cold. By that point we decided not to say anything.

All during dinner there were 2 flies that would not leave our table. We spent the entire meal trying to swap the flies away.

The drinks, the salads and the food took FOREVER to come out. We were there for 2 hours and only had entrées. No appetizers, no desserts or coffee. I understand they are busy but there’s only 8-10 tables there; it shouldn’t have taken that long. We purposely waited about a month until they were open to hopefully wait for some of the kinks to be worked out. Unfortunately there’s many kinks that have yet to be worked out.

There was also a large birthday party in the dining room but that the three servers seemed more concerned about waiting on then about all the other tables in the rest of the dining room. We weren’t the only table that waited quite a while for drinks, salad, water, etc. The party was very boisterous; had I known there was going to be a large party there, I would’ve come another evening. It certainly seemed like a type of thing that you shouldn’t have other guests dining there at the same time you’re hosting a large party in the same room.

But the absolute WORST part of our dining experience was the noise. The noise in the dining room is UNBEARABLE. I believe they removed the carpet from the dining room and replaced it with hardwood floor so I guess there’s nothing to dampen the sound now. The 4 of us could not even hear ourselves talk the entire two hours we were there. I noticed in another review someone else complained about the noise level. I don’t know what can be done about it but it certainly needs to be addressed.

Our server was very nice, and the food was delicious. The renovations are very well done. But between the noise level and everything else that went wrong; I just felt I had to write this review. I certainly hope the owners see this and try to address the issues. I really want this restaurant to succeed. I have been going to Sumneytown Hotel for 40 years and even used to waitress there. But if I’m paying $200 for dinner; without appetizers and desserts, I would expect a better experience. There is more to a great dining experience than just good food; and although the food was delicious, everything else that I mentioned needs some work to make...

My parents have gone here twice a month or so every month this year. And I've gone with them a time or two. The atmosphere is cozy, ESPECIALLY in the cooler months because it gives the feel of an old comfy house or cabin. The drinks are pheromonal, and the food is delicious. The calamari, scallops, and fried queso are personal favorites of mine. The service is always second to none.

My parents love it so much, we decided to have their surprise 40th wedding anniversary party here. Jess, the owner, is FABULOUS. She helped us determine options that fit our needs and budget, as well as curate a menu that worked for various different needs. She was prompt in answering questions, and so, so, friendly. She was endlessly patient with us. On the day of, she herself was helping in the room, and was so attentive and kind.

Everyone had nothing but wonderful things to say about how delicious the food and drink was (sliders, friend queso, calamari, short ribs, charcuterie and hummus), how kind and attentive the staff was, and how the room was the perfect size for our group of 24. My parents were thrilled, and our group had a wonderful time.

I would go here on a date, for happy hour, for a nice dinner, or absolutely host another private party here....
