Hilltop Coney Diner — Restaurant in Marlette Township

UPDATE: Our family came in for dinner tonight and the owner did exactly what he said he would do and beyond!! We received shakes for the table, the food was delicious as always and tonight’s servers, Katie and Mary, were excellent!! Thank you for listening to us and caring about your customers. We will continue to support you back.

The food at Hilltop is consistently good. It’s quality and fresh. However, for years Kathy has been allowed to be incredibly rude to customers. Despite this, and because everything else about it is good, our family has continued to frequent Hilltop. That may have changed today. My niece loves your chocolate shakes and will order one anytime she’s there. The last time she ordered one, Kathy‘s response was, “Really?!” and today Kathy gave her the same reaction. But then came back to the table and told my niece, “I don’t have time to make your shake. What’s your second choice?” How is this acceptable? Hilltop owner…you’re good with this? You know Kathy’s attitude has been a problem for a long time because you’ve addressed it before. Word to the wise…be careful what you continue to allow, because our town now has another nearby option since Brian‘s Restaurant has opened up in North Branch and KINDLY serves delicious food. My family and I go here almost every other weekend. Sometimes two times in a weekend. I'm never really disappointed other than by the ice tea once and honestly. . . I didn't even complain because everything else did not disappoint. I attend anywhere from 4 guests to 6 and never have had long waits or be turned away because of being a party of 6. We live in North Branch and will go to Hilltop coney over any of the places in North Branch because of the friendly wait staff. Fast and amazing food. Our last visit was this past Sunday, and needless to say, we sat down and immediately got our drink orders in and food order. Not even 10 minutes went by from their and our kiddos getting their food (I think the waitresses are use to us being okay with them getting their food first so we could cut it and ours still be warm. Also so they dont have to wait as long. ) My ex husbands and mine came our maybe 2 minutes after that right after we had finished cutting the kiddos' pancakes.

This place is decent for a quick diner meal. Its got a great selection of food and its usually cooked ok. My main problem with this place is the salads. When i go out to eat i want a good salad to start. They give you a heaping bowl of shredded lettuce, 1 cherry tomato and 1 thin slice of cucumber with the skin on and a few shreds of raw onion. THAT IS NOT A SALAD. Lettuce should be hand cut not shredded. There should be cut up tomatoes and cucumbers, shredded cheese and croutons in a side salad. If i wanted lettuce and ranch i would order lettuce and ranch. The fries and onion rings are good. I dont reccomend any other fried food from here. When you bite into it it squirts out liquid. The inside of the batter is underdone and the fish is rubbery and chewy instead of moist and flaky. The mushrooms are so liquidy it ruins the batter entirely.

I will eat here again but there are some foods i will avoid. I will change this review to 5 star if they change the salad and...
