Meh. The chicken was fine. Good, even. But it's fried chicken. I've had better, I've had worse. Was still overpriced for what it is. They were out of half the stuff on the board and half the stuff they did have, wasn't advertised. The sort of place that if you're a local and know what to order (and when to order it), you probably love. But if you're coming in from out of town, reading these reviews seeking local flavor for a small town meal, maybe give this place a skip.
The staff isn't friendly or particularly contientious, and cleanliness seems to be a real struggle for them. It's ok chicken but just about anyplace you stop in central Texas is going to be just as good. The Sunday roast beef was just pathetic and sad -- a tiny portion that was dry and gravy-less -- I'd be embarassed to serve it at a California nursing home let alone a small town roadside diner in Texas. The mac and cheese is too salty; green beans were a watery soup; the rolls were quite good. The Blue Bell ice cream has been sitting there for months collecting ice crystals. We watched a customer cough all over the napin and plasticware dispensers, and the whole place just feels kinda cruddy and unclean generally. Oh well. Was worth the try but safe to say, I...
Read moreSunday Fried Chicken🍗 after church! Woohoo! 😁Chicken was crispy & tasty. Hubby had the 3 piece meal (breast, leg, thigh, mashed potatoes, country gravy, fries & a roll) and I had the 2 piece meal (thigh and wing, mashed potatoes, country gravy, corn on the cob & a roll). Both meals were good. Chicken was crispy and moist. The thighs in both meals were a little greasy than our taste but the other pieces were great. I would have preferred a little more seasoning in the breading. Corn on the cob was juicy, no additional butter was needed and I got the last one available, so obviously an item in demand. Staff was friendly, and the inside was clean, including the ladies restroom 😁.There is a small banquet hall in the back for large meeting parties (up to 50?) and they also offer catering. Ice cream 🍦and cobbler are also available for dessert. I will stop by again when I am coming through town on business, plenty of room for parking, including large trucks on the side of the restaurant. Good food and good people here.😁 I hope this has helped you, if so please give me a 👍thumbs up & also check out my photos. Safe travels, God bless you and God bless...
Read moreSo my wife ordered the 10pc mixed Special for $10.99 (regularly $16.99). This is 10 pieces and 6 rolls. My wife does not eat thighs and requested them to be excluded from the order, but would still paid for them, which she had no issue doing. The owner sternly told her that she can either pay the full $16.99 for the same meal with no thighs or take them with the order, stating what she did with them outside the store was her business. I found this peculiar.
Further, when she ordered a drink she asked what was available. The owner replied “Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, and Dr. Pepper". She saw Big Red and asked about that. The owner’s reply was the same, but more aggressive. After placing her order, my wife observed his interactions with other patrons to see if this was just a bad day. Sadly, no one else received this type of treatment. This wouldn’t be so hurtful if we lived across the street. However, we live an hour away and used to regularly patronize his business.
