Oglebay Resort is lovely, but attending a work conference means you're held hostage and can't leave the premises without a lot of hassle. I've been here for 3 nights. Each night I've gone to Skyline for dinner. Night one I had the Tin Can Nachos. The cheese was gritty and watery. Almost as if it was instant powdered cheese. The taste and texture ruined the entire dish, not to mention the chips were soggy and mushy. Night two, I had a their burger. The homemade chips were so salty, I couldn't eat them. The side order of collard greens were so spicy, I couldn't eat them either. The burger had an odd taste and smell almost as if it were spoiled. I didn't eat that either. Tonight, it was pizza. Tough to mess up, right? It was burnt on the bottom. That said, I ate it and it wasn't as terrible as the previous nights. I did eat breakfast on day and "The Lodge" was okay. The potatoes were a little too greasy but good enough for a few bites. It's important to share that these were carryout orders that I ordered at the restaurant and picked up when they came out of the kitchen. There were other restaurants on the property but I did not have time to drive around looking for food. As beautiful as this resort is and as expensive as this restaurant is, I expected, at the very least, food that was mediocre. The restaurant itself is aesthetically appealing but the hard surfaces make it extremely loud and difficult to hear the wait staff who...

The appetizers were delicious but quite pricey. We tried the pretzel bites and pepperoni rolls, both of which were excellent. However, the experience took a turn during the next course. We noticed flies starting to appear and land around us, particularly at the second booth on the left where we were seated. As we received our soup and main course, a fly landed in the soup just as my daughter was about to eat it. We requested a replacement, which was provided at no extra charge. Unfortunately, the French onion soup was overly sweet and lacked a rich beef flavor.
The margaritas were great, but the rest of the meal was hit-or-miss. My wife had the chicken and mushroom dish, which was bland and lacked salt. The margarita pizza was just okay, and while the fish and fries were tasty, they also needed seasoning. Overall, the appetizers stood out as the highlight, but the rest of the meal and the fly issue left much to be desired. The absence of any acknowledgment or apology from the staff or management made us feel ignored, which was disappointing.
I haven’t dined at Oglebay in years due to past experiences with mediocre food, and this visit didn’t offer much improvement. I plan to try the steakhouse next and will share my thoughts on that as well. For now, I think the place is overpriced, and the fly problem definitely needs to...
Read moreNot sure why the low stars, wanted to come in with a 5-er for this spot. High level, we dined here on a weekday, early dinner time, so it wasn't very busy.
Service: I was worried about bringing our 2 year old and newborn considering the "vibe" the place had from the outside but the front of house staff were very welcoming to our family. Our server was very attentive and nice to the kids. Other servers came over to talk to our 2 year old which helped the dinner go by a bit smoother. Would recommend bringing your family.
Food: Excellent. We got a burger, a fig pizza, and the 2 year old got PB&J. It came out fast and was all delicious. Honestly, the PB&J blew me away. Wasn't expecting the kitchen to put that much effort into the presentation and quality for a kids meal. We ended our meal with an Apple Pie and Baked Alaska. Both were great!
Price: I was anticipating paying a bit more for the meal considering the location and the reviews I read prior, so I wasn't caught off guard, but the meal was pretty pricey. Because of the location, service, quality, I'd said it's pretty close to justified.
Overall: If you're on the fence due to other reviews, definitely go. Be prepared to spend a bit more than similar restaurants in the area, but it's a neat place to stop by and plan a nice evening, lunch,...
