One of the better places to eat in Martinsville but their Take-Out service is quite hit and miss so I usually try to avoid ordering take-out from them. Occasionally I will break down and be reminded of why I don't. A couple of months ago I ordered a very simple cheese quesadilla and opened the box when I got home to find a very scorched and skimpy quesadilla. Certainly they packaged something they never would have served to an eat in customer. Today, I order a spring salad with chicken salad. When I was paying for my order the cashier verified my order as they were ringing it up... A spring salad with chicken salad. Opened the box when I got home didn't have a spring salad at all. Instead I received a blob of very runny potato salad, some cantaloupe and a few blueberries, and a scoop of the chicken salad. At least they got the chicken salad part right. It will be another blue moon before I give them another go. El Norteno and Wild Magnolias are much...
Read moreCozy and home-like upscale restaurant in a former auto service station. Offers quality lunch and dinner with the friendliest of staff. My weekly lunch choice is the half salad/half sandwich. The chicken salad is the best I have ever eaten. The salads are made with fresh produce every time. My dinner choice is always the 'cooked to perfection' ribeye, served with potatoes, vegetables, salad and dinner rolls. I hear the crab cakes are the best around, but I haven't personally tried them. A variety of desserts are offered. My favorite is the chocolate chess pie. It's like an ooey-gooey warm brownie on a pie crust. So good. Wines, cocktails and spirits are also available. Third Bay is a must. Reservations are highly...
Read moreMy go-to restaurant in Martinsville. Easily the best restaurant in town. From steak to fish to pork chops, everything is superbly cooked, nicely presented, very tasty, and served with a smile and a friendly, local greeting. The atmosphere is very comfortable -- like being served in a room in a southern manor.
If you are completely ready for sensory overload, end with the chess pie(s). Wow.
I'm not saying I haven't had more intense, foodie-type, dishes in big cities, but there are many times I wished I could just have Third Bay's simple pork chop with mashed potatoes and asparagus instead of the over-produced, underwhelming attempts elsewhere. Third Bay never fails to put on...
