I actually frequent here a lot. However, after today I will not be returning. Not for a replacement nor any other meal. For the most part the food has been okay, but beware if your order is messed up. My burger was completely raw (i requested it as medium done). I called calm and asked what can be done. The staff was wonderful and honestly very sweet, but the manager (I don’t even know her name), is extremely rude and condescending. She cuts you off, wants to create a debate where there is none, and quite frankly her tone is just rude. I did not ask for my money back, only a replacement of my order yet she snapped at me. Yet I got “honey whatever if you want a refund bring it back”. Again, I was calling to ask for a replacement for this RAW burger. I responded “it’s 100 degrees outside, I’m not calling for a refund I’m calling to see if a note can be left for a replacement at a later date”. Again I got “honey it’s summer, obviously it’s going to be hot”. Not only did she raise her voice for no reason, she’s just unprofessional. I also said to her “maybe there is a mix in communication, because not once did I yell or get rude or smart with you or your associates. Why is there a back and forth when I’m simply making a complaint”. Now if I stooped to her level of emotional intelligence, I would have been wrong. I asked her not to call me honey as I am just trying to get some assistance in which she responded “okay hun”, as if she had a problem with the correction. Her attitude is rude and nasty as hell! I hope she isn’t the owner because of so, I feel sorry for any future customers. In short, I won’t even use the word to describe her that I want to. Y’all can keep the credit , I won’t be back. I don’t trust people like that around my food. I dont care how stressed or busy a person is, it doesn't give you the right to treat...
Read moreWriting this review, I'm comparing Expressway Pit Beef to the Mission BBQ in Annapolis. I ordered the full rack meal with coleslaw and pasta salad. The ribs were St. Louis style ribs, not baby back ribs, which is definitely a negative for me, but I'll chalk that up to preference. However, the ribs themselves lacked tenderness with some parts being quite chewy. This is likely a sign that the ribs weren't cooked long enough at the proper temperature. Finally, as far as the ribs go, there was sauce already on the ribs. Again, maybe this is preference, but I think the ribs should be able to shine without the sauce, not depend on the sauce. In my opinion, the sauce should be served on the side for dipping. As far as the sides go, the coleslaw was quite good, but the pasta salad was way too sweet. Referencing the Mission BBQ in Annapolis again, their ribs are definitely a 5/5, both their St. Louis style ribs and their baby back ribs (you're given a choice). The ribs at Mission BBQ are perfectly tender and taste great even without sauce because of the dry rub that they use. As a side note, I recommend the Mission BBQ in Annapolis over the one in Gambrills. For some reason, the one in Gambrills uses way too much salt. Finally, if you enjoy the ribs here, try the ribs at the Mission BBQ in Annapolis, and you probably won't come...
Read moreTasty beef, generous portions, and friendly service.
After hearing about the Pit Beef Platter, I decided that's what I would try. It's basically an open-faced beef sandwich with either mashed potatoes or french fries and covered in beef gravy. I ordered the meal as "medium." I would say it matched that reasonably well. As you might expect for sliced beef, individual slices ranged from medium rare to medium well, but overall it fit as medium. The beef was also very tender with just a little bit of char on some edges for a really nice flavor. The gravy had a pleasantly smooth taste. Mashed potatoes were good but also didn't really stand out. Portion size is very nice too. I went there hungry and still couldn't eat the entire thing.
The only thing I felt could be improved is the bread. The two untoasted slices of white bread under the meat didn't really get gravy and were basically like soggy sponges for the red juices leaking from the beef. (Reminded me of the white pads under meat you purchase at the store that get dyed red.) Fortunately the generous portions meant not everything would be eaten, and the bread was the first to be sacrificed after a small taste...
