What a nice little restaurant right here in beautiful downtown Otown. Very good food and excellent service. This is my favorite eating experience for many months
On my revisit to this restaurant after about a year I have to revise my opinion. On the first visit things were still a little slow due to Covid. Today I found that had reached capacity . On a Friday evening things were bustling and nearly every seat was filled.
Our waitress was probably new and needed help explaining menu questions. She was friendly and hustled to serve everyone. The kitchen must have really been at top speed to produce the volume of food. That being said, after a reasonably long wait I received food that I did not order. Not wanting to wait another 20 minutes for the correct item I just soldiered on and ate what I was given. It was a Chimichanga about half the size of a football. The tortilla it was wrapped in was overly thick and I made the mistake starting my eating assent from the end which had close to an inch of bread. Although the dish was attractive with artfully applied garnishes on the top it ended up somewhat dry. This item needed some sauce in order moisten it. If they downsized the chimichanga by half and doubled the garnishes it would have been much better. This item is best fried to a crispy texture but mine had set in the kitchen long enough for it to turn soggy before it reached me. I was only able to eat about 1/4 of it before I gave up. I can’t believe anyone is ever able to eat an entire one and it wouldn’t be that good as a leftover if taken home.
Lime and salt alludes to a margarita I assume. We order one to check it out. They must mix up a big tub of it because pitchers are offered. Our’s came in an uncharacteristic small glass with insufficient ice to dilute it to a palatable concentration. Someone in management should take a sip of what they send to the table so corrections can be made on the final product.
All in all some fine tuning needs to made here. And they should rethink being the only Mexican restaurant in the area that charges $2 for the chips and salsa especially on a night with longer waits for the food to be served....
Read moreFirst, our waitress was excellent, and the wait for the food and drinks was quick. The atmosphere was average, but it was pretty cold in the restaurant. However, the food was below standards. Stay away from the queso fundido; it looked like they just put some mozzarella in a ceramic dish, added a dash of seasoning, and then microwaved it. The fundido had about 1-2 mm of oil just chilling on the surface, and because it was just melted mozzarella, it was challenging to eat. The chips were stale, and there was nothing good or bad about the salsa; it was just average. The Diego burrito was average; it wasn't inherently bad, but it also didn't have any flavor; the tortilla for the burrito also seemed unauthentic and store-bought. The Carne Asada tacos were better, but nothing stood out. Lastly were the fish tacos; we had two of the beer-battered tacos, and these were terrible. The texture was comparable to a reheated piece of fish that had already been fried and then put in the fridge for leftovers. The fish had a bad taste, and the cabbage did not seem fresh.
The Google reviews gave me hope that this place might be ok, but the food told me otherwise. Hopefully, this was just a singular bad experience, but I feel that the current reviews might be skewed, as with many...
Read moretl;dr Food is great, service a bit slow, some improvements can be made
I went there with my parents, today. I had 3 of the street tacos al pastor. Nicely seasoned pork, pineapple that was faintly sweet and a bit juicy without being overpowering, pico de gallo and cilanto, served between two soft flour mini tortillas. Delicious! I also had a side of refried beans, tasty enough but not really worth the upcharge. My parents had pork and chicken quesadillas. My mom loved hers (chicken), my dad thought there wasn't enough pork even as I'm looking at it thinking "that's a lot of pork!". Whatever. Bottled beer was reasonably priced, queso dip not so much. I can buy a whole jar of Tostitos medium cheese dip for the price and it's pretty much the same thing. Definitely inferior to the queso blanco found at other Hispanic restaurants for about the same price. The salsa was a cut above normal, very good, but it and the chips were not included with the meal, they were separate menu items. Plus, the chips had been in the microwave one too many times. I don't want to end this review on a negative note. The food was very good, there are some rough edges but every restaurant has them. Do go there and decide for yourself, a neighbor of mine went 3 days in a row upon...
