Hearty's Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Maryland

Where do I start. . . I'm a new Yorker who knows good Chinese carryout. This isn't it. It's actually the complete opposite. Let's start with the establishment itself, when I opened the door, I was hit with an extremely pungent smell of something rotten (1st red flag). Went against my gut feeling and ordered. Kept it simple, 4 wings with fried rice, with a side order of fries. I had to walk out while they cooked because of the weird smell. When I get home, I opened the container and got a whiff of the very rotten smell I got when I first walked into heartys. I took a bite of the 1st wing, it wasn't bad but not great. Rice was under cooked and very hard, still white in most spots might I add. The fries were good. I then bite into a 2nd chicken wing and that very strong smell came out of it. I literally gagged and spit the food out immediately. It smelled so horrible, it was clearly bad meat, yet the cooks decided to serve it anyway! I'm sure if I would have swallowed that chicken, I would have been really ill in the hospital. I know the smell of bad meat, and this was something else. I call them and tell the guy on the phone what happened and he couldn't care less. I HIGHLY recommend you go to YUMS which is about 4 minutes away at the food lion...

I ordered four different things here, all were terrible. I'll start with the fried whiting with french fries. The fish was breaded too much,the fish was barely present. It was like fish filler and bread. It was horrible. The steak n cheese was dry, I asked for everything on it, add mushrooms, peppers, hot peppers, the works. They didn't add any of it, but charged extra for it. I ordered two separate orders of four piece wings with mumbo sauce, one with fries, one with fried rice. I asked for extra mumbo sauce on the wings, they barely put any mumbo sauce on the wings. The fried rice was undercooked, hard, and disgusting. The French fries were good though. Order was almost $50 and they don't even give you a free egg roll or choice of drink. Will never order from here again. A much better carryout is in the plaza where...

We have come to this restaurant for years and have enjoyed it but as I was eating my food this evening, I saw a small cockroach in it. I called and they apologized and refunded me immediately. They did say that usually they require people to come into the restaurant to show the food. I wanted to share the experience because I want others to make sure to watch out for the food's quality and health standards...
