Location is just what the area needed since my main place moved a little further away but that is one of the only advantages. First off I called and received a message saying the phone was busy, and I had called about 5 times (to inquire about what was on the menu for the day). So after church in White Plains, my elderly grandmother and I rode there to pick up some much needed grub. Ok so we pull up and I find a close space. There are about 4 men outside laughing and swearing and smoking and what not (ya know that vulgar talk that some like to partake in) but I ignore it, I mean Hey! Has nothing to do with me personally. So we both get out and a couple of them are staring and 2 gave come-hither looks which irritated the F out of me but we head towards the establishment. The oldest one with dreadlocks throws out whatever he was smoking, goes in and doesn't even hold the door, and we were about 15 feet behind him. Granted, maybe he thought we were headed to Subway but anyone with common sense knew the direction in which we were going and looking toward. When I walked in I wanted to say something to him but decided to bite my damn tongue. So once inside we're checking out the place and no one greeted us. The man who was outside was now in the kitchen and after 1 minute asked in a rough and gruff voice "May I help you?" No smile or anything. I asked for a minute to decide. While we were trying to decide a sour-faced young lady ( I want to say something else) came out and just stared at us with boredom written all over her face. We decided on the bbq wings and brown sugar ribs with Collards and Cabbage. Meals were nearly $30 damn dollars and we only got one side each. How is that a dinner? I had to pay separate for a damn drink! Let that sink in. See I try to support black businesses but practices like this make me reluctant to do it as much as I want. My drink was watery and flat flat flat. The food was bland, very bland, but the collards and cabbage were mediocre but alright. I could eat them again but the chicken and ribs? I'm getting over a bad head cold so I attributed that to why I could barely taste anything but my dear gmom said and I quote "I don't taste nuffin" LOL but she did kind of like the collards, well, I'll say, she found them EDIBLE lol. Will I go back?NO! No one was warm or friendly. When running a business, you have to know how to talk and treat people in order to go far in your endeavors, and the Customer Service is abysmal here!
As for the meats. No flavor. No taste. No seasoning or should I say not much if at all. Extremely pricey food with customer service that sucks! WARNING! That man that cooks the food, I think he is the owner I guess, was strolling through his phone, fixing his jacket, and scratching that damn gray dreaded hair, picked up something from the floor but did NOT wash his hands right before handing me our food. I kid you not! I didn't like the vibe and will NOT return. I will go to my usual soul food spots in Waldorf, White...
Read moreWell let me start by giving KUDOS to Don, the cashier/order taker/cook/customer service agent, etc. He did a really good job running everything by himself on Saturday, April 17th. The issue I had was with the GROUPON I used for $60 worth of if food. No where on the GROUPON or on High Noons website does it say you have to spend more than $60 to benefit from the groupon. I was $10 under the groupon value but was ten charged $11 on top of the groupon. I paid the money because Don was really getting busy, and decided I would call back a little later. So I called back and spoke to a nice young lady (Rose....I think) and went through everything I ordered and told her I believe was over charged. She then told me, Don shouldn't have even accepted the groupon because I was spending under $60. I told her that wasn't explained to me, otherwise I would've just ordered more food. Now I feel like I didnt even get the benefit of the "deal". Anywho, she said she'd pass the information and my number on to the Manager. I have yet to receive a call, so thought I Yelp it. Now on to the food....the hush puppies were very good, macj/cheese was tasty and my friend really enjoyed her bread pudding. The greens and cabbage were both edible, but nothing special. The blacken catfish was seasoned with something that did not agree with me and was a little salty. But support local businesses, overall I'd try them again even after the trouble I...
Read moreMy order was absolutely horrible. I tried to call back for resolution or a refund, but they were closed. I ordered crab stuffed salmon with candied yams, cabbage & an order of sweet chili bang shrimp with a side of Mac & cheese.
The salmon was overly smothered with old bay & literally had a tablespoon of crab meat on top ( NOT STUFFED). The yams were stringy, almost to the point that they weren’t even edible. The shrimp was just fried with a DRIZZLE of sweet chili sauce. There was not nearly enough sauce on this to call it anything besides fried shrimp. The Mac& cheese literally had no cheese! The noodles were bare! The rest of the food was so bad & ill prepared that I didn’t even bother to touch the cabbage. This was a complete disappointment. The only thing that was decent was the crab which once again I got one spoon of. Please revise your menu, prep & cooking because this is not acceptable & its borderline false advertisement.
Edit: After reading my review Mr. Mckinnis contacted me directly & apologized. He refunded my money for the meal & remade the meal to change what was previously listed as an issue. Even though my meal was not initially what was expected, his customer service & service recovery is great. The shrimp, amount of crab & salmon were definitely improved. I may return just for the crab...
