I'm saddened and truly bothered by my last visit. There were two places I could get crab cakes before, and now there's one. Because after coming here for years, not only did they accidentally feed me a crab cake that wasn't gluten free, the manager lied to me about what they serve, and took no accountability. And its upsetting. Because between me and the people I've had treat me to this place in the past couple of years, I've brought in thousands to Pappas. I complain one time, and I get a ridiculous response.
I visited on 5/25/25, shortly after "after hours" began (that's when I normally go). I ordered the gluten free crab cake and fries. I knew it wasn't gluten free, as I started having the reaction I have, whenever I ingest gluten. I didnt eat the second crab cake or the rest of the fries. I normally eat both, no issue. I arrived the next morning, before the store opened, to let them know what happened and get a refund. It's not like I ate the entire thing. My reaction start before digestion does, so I knew not to keep eating.
I told the manager I was having a reaction because I'm gluten intolerant, and she said they didnt have gluten in them. And she was certain because of the spice they use on the gluten free crab cakes. I said, well I'm certain I ate gluten, because I'm having the reaction. I asked could it have been the fries, being fried with food that isn't gluten free (cross contamination). This woman lied to me and told me they dont serve fried food (while we were talking about fries). From what I understand, most of the food after hours is fried.
I'm trying to understand why after coming here for years, they think that I would up and make this up. I LOVE that crab cake. But I promise I will never buy it again. To make matters worse, the manager was also gluten free. And if its for an intolerance like me, her being a woman, and knowing the reaction it causes, well its messed up for her not to care and to lie to my face like that.
DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU ARE GLUTEN INTOLERANT; IF THEY ARENT CAREFUL AND PAYING ATTENTION LIKE THEY HAVE AT EVERY OTHER VISIT OF MINE, THEY WILL FEED YOU THE GLUTEN AND TAKE NO ACCOUNTABILITY.
At the very least, if I dont like something, I have the right to a refund. She didnt refund me for the one crab cake I did bring back. She handled this matter horribly. I'm fighting to get my money back in another way, but I shouldn't have to. I spent $70 on food I couldn't finish and that made me sick (i have the RX receiptto prove it-submitting to my bank). That is abhorrent.
UPDATE Attached a pic of the reply email I sent after receiving the response, which totally negates their apology and accountability. We'll see if they actually do anything.
2ND UPDATE My bank finalized the claim and returned the funds. Pappas never responded. Also, the person who responded to this is the same person who lied and told me I they didnt serve fried food. I know because she's explaining it identically to how it was explained when I went in. That's why she was so defensive, and quite frankly absurd, when she said that their entire staff doesn't lie 🤔 So first she tells me pappas doesn't serve fried food (while discussing fries), then she tells me her employees dont lie (like she's in everyones thoughts). Homie, you should've just refunded me. I would have forgiven the mistake. Continuing to not be accountable, you've lost a customer for life, and what im certain would be at least thousands more, considering I drop $150-200 everything I come in, and $70 every time I pick...
Read moreMy friend’s birthday was the other day and he decided that he wanted to go to Pappas to eat . We had a larger than average party so it was so nice of them to find us seating fairly quickly on a very busy day for them . We were extremely thankful for that because we were walk-ins . The food was , ok . . the crab cake was delicious I got the restaurant special for restaurant week . So I got a beautiful 3 course meal . I was super excited due to it being my very first time coming to this establishment . So I had the pleasure of receiving multiple things off of the menu without breaking the bank . The problems accrued shortly there after we got our waitress . She didn’t want to split the check amongst a larger party . I have been be in the hospitality business for many years . When you spilts check you have to be very organized . When she came to bring out plates she was giving people the wrong food . She was piling all of the things we wanted on to one table vs knowing who , what , and where things were supposed to be going . . . So fast forward to the end to when we had to split checks at the end of the dinner . She accidentally piled all of the appetizers on to one bill then when we confronted her about it she said “ that’s why we don’t split checks because things get confusing “ vs holding herself accountable for her mistakes she blamed us and started racially profiling us thinking that we as mature adults would dine and dash . She was super nervous that we were going to leave on our bills when more than half of us had already paid . Some of our party had to leave but nobody dined and dashed we were all 30 plus years of age . She was treating us like we were teenagers . . . I as an ethnic minority American I will never attend this establishment again . She was not warm nor inviting . . . More than half of us at the table are college educated black mature adults . . . I could see if we were unruly or aggressive individuals we weren’t . We noticed that she was nervous and were actually trying to calm her down . She was upset when we were all looking at our bills with things that didn’t belong because she wasn’t keeping up with what each person was ordering . . Then being heavily condescending towards us ; due to her own...
Read moreIncredibly disappointed in my recent visit. I have been to this establishment multiple times and have had the same bar tenders. Today I came with the same friend with an ice coffee. When the bartender came to ask for our drink order I explained I just wanted to see a food menu. She back with a menu, but then proceeded to ask for id to sit at the bar even though I didn’t even order a drink. I am 30 years old. My problem is, if you are going to have practices like this, be consistent. Make sure you are asking for everyone’s id. It truly felt like in the moment seeing how crowded the bar was becoming, she was annoyed she felt she wasn’t going to make as much money off of us considering I didn’t order drinks. The next incident happened when the food runner came, and I asked about fries I had ordered. The gentleman explained it wasn’t on the ticket so I hadn’t ordered them, and then the nasty bartender who didn’t even take my order says “ if you had ordered them , they would be on the plate as the tenders. I have ordered the fries and tenders before. The fries and tenders have never come on the same plate seeing as I get the buffalo tenders. The bartender quickly realized she was wrong when the food runner comes back with the fries saying it was on another ticket. She realizes she was wrong and it was obvious she made sure to never make her way back over to that side of the bar. She didn’t want to apologize. It wasn’t what she said, it was how she said it and her tone. How was that helpful? And why argue with someone over whether someone ordered fries? I called the restaurant back later in the evening to speak to a manager , no one answered. Needless to say , as a 30 year old women, I have never felt more uncomfortable at a bar in the last 5 years than I did this day. There is no comparison when you compare the hospitality from the Parkville location to Cockeysville. Parkville is a much warmer and welcoming environment. People are nice. I had had the same bartender that asked for the if before. I knew she had recognized us from before. Please train your staff to be more aware,...
