Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard — Restaurant in Maryland

This place is awful. I originally went to the Rita’s on Joppa Road but they were packed and had a very long line so I went to the Perry Hall location instead. I bought 2 large gelattis: one cotton candy and the other cheesecake, started to eat them with my son and I noticed the cheesecake had no flavor, just tasted like ice. I chalked it up to maybe it was intentionally not made to be sweet since I never ordered that flavor before. Just made a mental note to not order it again, no big deal. My son ate a few spoons and said I can’t finish this. It has no flavor. It just tastes like ice. I said yeah, mine too and asked to taste his and sure enough it also had no flavor. I went to return them both as we hardly touched them and was told that they ran out of the cotton candy flavor. I asked if we could just exchange for 2 different flavors and was told I’d have to pay for 2 more gelattis! I said are you serious and told them that was horrible customer service and asked to speak with a manager when a teenager appeared and annoyingly made 2 smalls for me. This was only after I said “now I understand why this place doesn’t have any business and the one on Joppa Road does.” I will never again give my business to...

I’m a former employee here. I worked here for 5 years, and looked at this establishment as a 2nd home. My beloved boss passed away and new ownership came along. It was two men, Tim & Brian. They had an extreme rivalry between one another. The both of them were uneducated on Rita’s- but money buys anything nowadays. It was an extremely inappropriate and uncomfortable setting to work in. I was the manager and dealt with unprofessional/disgusting remarks. The one that stood out the most was Tim saying “telling Brian’s wide he cheats on her for a bonus.” I left this job a while ago. I kept most of this/still have private due to legal reasons. I’ve now been called names, and ignored regarding my tax forms. All in all* - DO NOT let your child work here, until new ownership comes in (which will likely be a long time.) Corp won’t risk having the business shut down as it’s one of the best $ makers in MD due to the location.

My husband and I went there the other weekend and to our surprise, service was way below subpar, super slow, understaffed and the place was dirty. The girl serving us rolled her eyes and loudly sighed everytime a new customer had walked in. My husband had asked for a brownie sandwich and she did not seemed pleased when she heard that order. The girl had stared at him with this annoyed looked on his face for at least 10 seconds before continuing with our order. She had come back and told us there were no more brownies, but did not offer us an alternative selection. She was rude and unpleasant.
