Swallow Inn — Restaurant in Masonville Township

Not sure how this place is still in business, or how it has ANY good reviews. Went there for a family visit because it had good ratings. When we drove by the Rapid River Pub on the way to the Swallow Inn, the Pub was packed. After we parked, we were already questioning our decision. We walk in and there is one person at the bar. And one person behind the bar. We ordered drinks. They came a couple mins later, no problem. The beer was flat, the lines must have been dirty. She asked if we were ready to order, we got some appetizers. She goes back to the “kitchen” and we hear Beep beep beep beep and we all started laughing. About 45 seconds later she’s already bringing it out. I didn’t order anything, I told her I had enough of whatever that was. Accidentally being passive aggressive. Whoops. The Beef product that was put into the shape of a patty, was not real meat. They didn’t even ask how we wanted it cooked. If it were up to me, I would have left because of that. One of us asked if we could have another basket, and I said, “I guarantee she’s gonna bring a basket with no paper” and everyone laughed because they knew I was right. I don’t know why i’m really even leaving a 2 but it kills me to write bad reviews. I also check reviews before I go to a spot and would like to have fair warnings. This bar wreaked like a mixture of cat feces and pee. The bartender wasn’t excited about new faces and when we asked if their kitchen was open so went on for about 20 seconds about how she’s been doubling and working super late and she’s tired but she guesses she could cook us something. We were only considering take out because of the smell, however the vibe from the bartender really made us feel concerned about the quality of the food she might make. So we said thanks anyways and headed out. We both bartend in restaurants and would’ve just said straight up the kitchen is closed or been polite and gave the menus out. If we could give NO stars we would. Stopped there last night in hopes of a good fish dinner but apparently they only want locals. Took 20 min before we were acknowledged, then took order for drinks not bothering to mention they needed to take name for dinner or a table in "dining" area. No one came back to us . For an hour we waited, then went to ask for menus, were given one. But still no one told us we had to give our name for a table. Finally our son went to bar to place a dinner order for the 4 of us and was told we had to sit in the dining room to eat, not in other part of restaurant. So we did and another 20 minutes went by. Finally fed up with no service we went to the bar to pay for drinks and leave. We were then told by waitress they had a table for us and turning around to look other people just sat down there.
