All around bad experience. Do yourself a favor and just go on down the street to 3 star.
Sat down. Waitress took drink order. We needed a minute to look at menu. She said she'd be back in minute. 30 minutes later my husband had to go try to get someone to take order. The guy that came to take our order was nice. We had gotten steaks. I wanted well done, it was definitely well done. My husband wanted RARE. It came out at well. Poor cut of meat, to be honest. A different waitress came with the guy that took our order to bring the steaks out. She said i didn't bring silverware since y'all had salads. She left to get butter for my husband when I looked at plate and noticed there was no knife. When she came back, I asked her for a knife. She said that's why I said I didn't bring any because y'all had salad bar and they're up there but I'll go get it. She comes back with them, says nothing. I say thank you and get the knives. She says nothing and turns and walks off. By this point, I'm just wanting to leave, but we stay and eat. After that, we aren't checked on the ENTIRE time we sit there and eat. We were there a while eating, and the only person that ever came by was the tea refiller guy twice.
It seemed as though no one cared that we were ignored for so long even when that waitress waited on several people around us that came in WAAYY after us. They had time to order, wait, eat, and go and we'd never gotten the...
Read moreThe Trace Way is a downhome cooking place where you can get decent food at a good price. It's a cafeteria style restaurant where you sit down then go to the steam tables where someone ladles out your food. When I was there (Dec. 2013), the menu was your choice of a soup and salad bar, or a meal. The meal included a good sized chunk of meat- I chose the baked chicken- and three sides plus a roll or cornbread and tea or coffee for $5.00- that is total, no tax. And with no servers, there's no tip.
The chicken was excellent. Well seasoned and fell off the bone. The cooked carrot sides were a bit flavorless, but still retained some texture; the beans were good and hearty, the coleslaw was a bit on the mushy side (I think that they could grate the cabbage a bit more coarsely), but the flavor was good; the cornbread was a bit on the 'overmixed' side so that the texture was a bit tough. Unfortunately, they did not offer real butter, but only 'whipped spread'- blech. But for $5, you're not going to get a 5 star meal. I bring my own butter to restaurants anyway for just such eventualities. Everything was edible, hot, and seemed fresh, iand I ate it all. Hard to beat a good, hot, hearty...
