The Breakroom Bar and Grill — Restaurant in Mattoon

Not sure what's up with the pool league people. We were there at three pm to play 2 or 3 games and grab an appetizer. At 3:05, the least pleasant woman I've spoken to told us that we needed to move tables because of pool league. League starts at 5pm. Not sure why the table being empty for a few hours was essential, even though we said we were leaving after our food and a couple of games.

When several people at my table went to smoke and I was racking, she and her husband felt the need to come over and remind me personally about 6 more times that they needed the table. I said we knew and were leaving after this game. She proceeded to tell me several more times about league. When I told her to stop saying the same thing at us more than a dozen times, she proceeded around the bar on a pity party tour that we were being mean at her. The presumed staff member then came to ask how we liked our food. The food was good, but the taste in my mouth is not.

We come to Mattoon maybe twice a year, we like to play pool, and we like to eat here. If the apparent justice league is playing here though it'll be an ordeal if you just want to play a few games.

Great bar and pool hall, however daytime wait staff was clueless. I ordered fried bacon chicken ranch with lettuce, bacon, tomato, and ranch, sub fries for side salad blue cheese dressing. My salad came out fine, but sandwich came plain w fried chicken and bacon, no thing else. I asked server for sides of sandwich and he thought I wanted it in a salad so he brought me another plain...

We were told that The Breakroom had the best burgers in Mattoon/Charleston. Well, that’s almost correct. I will have to say they’re the best burgers in the State! The Roughneck burger was so good, juicy and flavorful! Not to mention, locally sourced beef too! And those fried pickles… well… I can brag about those like the burgers!
