Triple Nickel Saloon — Restaurant in Mattoon

I've been here twice. The first time, I had pizza as they didn't have anything else outside of lunch, which seemed to end around 1pm. It was ok, but it's just frozen pizza. I don't get the rave reviews on that. The second time, I had an Italian beef sandwich, which came on a cold wet bun, that must have come out of the freezer in the morning. Meat was OK but nothing great. Side of instant mashed potatoes and canned gravy was garbage. First bartender was somewhat friendly, second was not at all. I set my credit card on the bar and after a while I asked for a check and she kept rolling up forks for a while before she bothered run my card. Atmosphere...

Pizza available until pretty much closing time. They are pre-made, so you can't alter toppings, but the one I tried (taco) was good. They have drink specials if you catch the right day/time, and lunch specials have been good every time. Clean place with consistent service/food.

Update: Have had mixed results on the Italian beef pizza (named scorpion i think). First time I had it the spice was on point. Every time thereafter it has been more subdued. Don't get me wrong, it's still a pizza I'll get again because of its uniqueness, and i genuinely enjoy devouring it. If you like Italian beef, . . . ....

Great low key spot to grab a drink, blast music, and throw some darts around.

Visited with the wife and a couple friends. Pretty nice vibe. Their pizza is pretty fire.
