The 2 stars is only because the Waitress Morgan was a gem of a person and she made our time really worth the trip but the food is not at all what you are going to this restaurant for… is the view great sure of course it is but the food was not at all what I was hoping.. this place came recommended by 2 people so I thought hmm maybe it’s going to be good … then I was skeptical because of you look at the recent reviews you would see most people mention breakfast , brunch or the view … I now know why dinner is not mentioned!!
Let’s open with the positives !! I came at 4:50 for a 5pm was seating right away and great options to sit with a nice view…
Server Morgan again was amazing, sweet and charming!
For food I ordered the blue cheese wedge that had ice burg lettuce bacon blue cheese dressing and cable cheese crumble.
This dish was amazing but how do you mess up a wedge salad that has no real cooking involved !!
My husband ordered the shrimp cocktail again not much cooking here it was good typical cocktail. Not bad you can’t mess that up much.
For our main dish I had the special for the evening which was two different pieces of fish don’t remember the names but I will tell you I was so disappointed. One of the pieces of fish was honestly not bad the 2nd piece was slimy not good and it was drenched in what ever teriyaki like dressing or reduction, the vegetables where also swimming in a seas of this liquidy glaze I always say if you have to douse the dish in a glaze or over power all the proteins then there is something wrong with the dish … I didn’t taste the fish at all.. was absolutely horrible. The pasta was room temp which was fine because it was mentioned and expected but the over bearing flavors again to much of what ever it was seasoned with. Now I cook and very well regularly but when you can’t taste the protein or natural flavors of the food at all and can only taste the drizzles and or the reductions it should be one that compliments the dish not overbears the dish.
My husband had the ribeye and the steak was near raw he asked medium rare but it was closer to rare we asked for it to be heated a little more and you can tell this rubbery steak was not choice or prime meats at all. Also the asparagus was not crunch and not fresh. Just not a good dinner at all…
The drinks were amazing no issues there!
They asked if I wanted to try something else I really was turned off at this point and it was mentioned that the mean I chose they were all out of so it’s not like they can remake this dish but if it’s 5 pm and you close at 8-9 how can a meal like that already be finished I think they didn’t want to redo it or maybe they already got so many complaints they didn’t want to send it out again.. now sure …
As for the staff as I said they were great no issues there at all!
Instead of another meal I asked for another appetizer instead which was the Brussels Sprouts I love Brussels sprouts but the entire dish was also drenched in balsamic vinaigrette which was way too over powering also!!
I would pay $500-$1000 for a great meal no questions asked but this meal was by far one of the worst…
The manager took the food off our bill even though we were willing to pay and never asked for anything to be taken off… that was very nice of them to do as for customer service.
But the food missed the mark !! We made sure to tip the waitress what we would have given her had we paid the whole meal anyway because that is the right thing to do.. we ended up going to a near by brewery to...
Read moreThe Plantation House Restaurant isn’t a place you’ll just stumble upon like other restaurants down Front Street. Unless of course you’re hungry & been googling for a place to eat, were referred, play golf or live in the area. I actually only found out about this hidden gem though my parents. They personally love dining here because it’s open & spacious. Plus I think it’s because my mom fell in love with the orchid wall. So I’m pretty sure that’s also on her at home DIY list. So thanks for the inspiration. On the other hand it’s actually kind of funny for a kid that was born & raised here. I had no idea this place existed until my first lunch here a few years back. However my first time could have been a breakfast so I’ll just say it was a brunch.
As for first impressions the drive up here is so beautiful, green & I just love all the tall trees. Plus if you come up during the day the views are always breathtaking. However if you burn as easily as I do, I’d definitely recommend wearing sunscreen just in case you’re in a sunny window seat. Or if there’s rain clouds you’ll get to see some colorful rainbows. Come during whale season & you can sometimes see massive splashes off in the distance. Also the sunsets here are a must. Just be realistic, when the sun goes down your vast open view will disappear with it. Unless of course there’s a full moon then that’s a different story. But seriously don’t get your hopes up, you may or may not get that amazing star view. It all depends upon the weather.
As for the food, I’d recommend at least going for a breakfast, lunch & dinner. So you can decide for yourself which dining timeframe & menu is your favorite. I personally prefer dinner just so I can see the sunset & it’s so much cooler once the sun goes down. Plus I’m not very comfortable in dining situations where I’m just a sweaty hot mess. While also crossing my fingers I don’t turn into a red lobster from just looking in the direction of the sun.
My favorite items to order on the dinner menu is a toss up between the Ahi & the Short Rib. However my only down side with ordering the Ahi is the bok choy it’s never thoroughly washed. So if you check the crevices you’ll probably find dirt. Yes, it’s a plant however so if you’re not intending for this dish to be that earthy in flavor. I’d recommend either adding an extra rinse or to just cut off the base before serving.
As for desserts I do like the pineapple upside cake. Even though I’m not personally a fan of coconut. I just enjoy the cold so will tolerate it just to enjoy a little something sweet.
Overall this is a beautiful restaurant. But if you were to ask my honest opinion the employees uniforms should match just not with the wallpaper. A floral print top with a striped apron doesn’t seem to fit the professional vibe or the menu prices. Swapping the striped apron for a solid black apron could be an easy fix. Or even a black top to go with the striped apron.
Until next...
Read moreThis is a hard review to write I was really excited to return to this spot to celebrate another big wedding anniversary.
We had come a few years ago and loved it so much we were sad we had only gone once during our last trip.
So this time we planned to make more than one visit. So Thursday night we got really dressed up, hair make up, even my dress was couture you get it, even got my husband a fancier shirt lol And we attended our 8 o'clock reservation 1 of 2 planned. Excited to experience the same excellence that we had during our previous visit. But unfortunately this time around was cold and rushed. The server was nice but lacked concern for my allergies. I have a few weird ones but they are still very real and not fun. It's kinda like she didn't believe me which didn't feel great because, It already sucks having to be firm about them. I get it it's annoying to have allergies but its worse having to question if my food was safe and thats not a great feeling. We ordered our drinks, starters and food all at the same time. The menu hadn't changed so we knew what we wanted. But I was never asked if I wanted another drink, it sat empty the entire time we ate our meal. We had the soup which was more of a cream sauce or purée it was really good though. We both wanted the filet, which was cooked perfect, the asparagus though was not good. I don't if it wasn't full cooked or what happened but we both agreed it was off. Over all the issue was really just how rushed, cold and awkward this experience was.
We ordered desert and both decided we can skip are second visit and redo our anniversary dinner at different place before we leave.
One more odd thing though are reservation was set for 8pm which is confusing... because when i went to look up this place to write this review it states they close at 8pm ... Is this why are service was rushed and awkward because staff wanted to go home? Because why were we able to make the open table reservation? How horrible for all of us Over all this was a not a great experience.
I leave you with a photo of...
