The Honolua Bay Access Trail is a popular hiking trail located in Maui, Hawaii, which is known for its stunning views and rich natural beauty. This trail is a must-visit for anyone who loves hiking and nature, as it offers a unique experience that cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

The Honolua Bay Access Trail is a relatively short trail, stretching only 1.2 miles in total. However, it is rated as a moderate trail, which means that it requires some effort and skill to navigate. The trail is mostly a dirt path, which can be slippery and muddy in some parts, especially after a rainfall. It is recommended to wear sturdy shoes with good traction and bring water, sunscreen, and insect repellent.

The trail begins near a small parking lot and winds through lush tropical foliage, offering a glimpse of the local flora and fauna. The trail is well-maintained and has clear signage, so hikers can easily find their way. The first part of the trail is relatively easy, with only a slight incline, but it quickly becomes more challenging as it narrows and steepens.

As hikers make their way up the trail, they are rewarded with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and the surrounding countryside. The trail is surrounded by dense vegetation, including bamboo and other tropical plants, which adds to its charm and natural beauty. Along the way, hikers can also spot native wildlife, such as the Hawaiian Hoary Bat, which is a protected species.

At the end of the trail, hikers are treated to a breathtaking view of Honolua Bay, a world-renowned surfing spot. The bay is surrounded by rocky cliffs and lush greenery, which makes it a popular spot for nature lovers and photographers alike. The water is crystal clear and perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and diving. The bay is also home to an abundance of marine life, including sea turtles, tropical fish, and coral reefs.

While the Honolua Bay Access Trail is a relatively short and easy hike, it is important to note that it can be challenging for some hikers, especially those who are not used to hiking or have physical limitations. The trail can be steep in some parts, which requires hikers to be in good physical condition and have adequate footwear. It is also important to bring enough water and snacks, as there are no facilities or shops along the trail.

Overall, the Honolua Bay Access Trail is a must-visit for anyone who loves nature and hiking. The trail offers a unique experience that cannot be found anywhere else in the world, with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, lush tropical foliage, and an abundance of native wildlife. Whether you are an experienced hiker or a beginner, the Honolua Bay Access Trail is a great way to experience the natural beauty of Maui and create...

In the first part of August 2017 the clearest water was almost daily in the north-west part of Maui. Consequently our snorkeling in Honolua Bay was the greatest experience from our vacation. The water was crystal clear and we had a day with calm sea. From the very beginning on the right side of the bay we encountered a great quantity and diversity of fish. When we reach also the central reef the underwater landscape was also magnificent. On this mid bay reef we encountered also one of the biggest turtles that we saw in Maui. We had two round of snorkeling with a total of 3-3.5 hours in water. On my snorkeling marking scale the score for Honolua Bay was for sure 5 from a maximum of 5 point. The entering into water is difficult due to the lack of sand and the concrete slope that exists in the middle of the beach is very deteriorated. Unfortunately the lack of facilities for the tourists makes a longer stay difficult mainly for the ones that are not involved in snorkeling activities. In my opinion this beach is very good only for snorkeling because it is difficult enough to find a more even place for placing your beach chair. The number of parking places is far less than the number of tourist wishing to visit Honolua Bay. The vegetation along the path leading to the rocky beach is impressive. Impressive is also the lack of ecological toilets and garbage trashes. The presence of a large number of wild chickens is nice in the beginning but if you stay longer you will be surprise to realize how annoying can be...

Honolua Bay is awesome! This was our second time going there. First time we went it was extremely remote and must have been one of Maui's best kept secrets. This time there were a lot of other visitors. I believe it's just passed mile marker 32.5. You will see a few porta potties out front and cars parked around the area. This time there was someone across the street selling smoothies and sandwiches... I don't know if he's always there doing that.. It is a short hike back to a little Bay. It has pretty good snorkeling but you shouldn't go in the water if it's murky cuz it can get dangerous. There are lots of wild roosters and chickens running around. They beg for food so aware of that. There is no sand on the beach. It is smooth Round Rock's which makes it a little challenging to get into the water. It is definitely worth heading back there even if it's just to sit and...
