Penguin Palace — Restaurant in Maumee

I come here at least 2 times a week, and sometimes even more. Every single time that we come here they mess up our order. Like there has not been one time that it was either made with a different kind of ice cream than we asked for, or there are only half of the toppings in it that are listed on the menu for the sundae. I get the same thing every time and it’s always missing at least one thing or the other. I really love how close this place is to my house so we keep going, but I’m really getting tired of spending $10 every time for my order to be wrong. I got the Tropicana tornado today and asked for extra banana in which it only had coconut, the ice cream and literally 3 slices of banana on it. I recently ordered the Recess Sundae from Penguin Palace, and I was incredibly disappointed with my experience. The picture on the menu showed a sundae topped with Reese's Pieces and Reese's Cups, but what I received was far from that. Instead of the advertised toppings, I got just chocolate ice cream with a little bit of peanut butter and whipped cream. This is deceptive marketing at its worst. Not only did the sundae fail to meet my expectations based on the picture, but it was also quite expensive for what I got. I felt like I paid a premium price for a very basic dessert. Penguin Palace is our favorite summer time soft serve ice cream place. It sits along scenic River Road in Maumee and is kept attractive and clean on its exterior, where there are several large tables with umbrellas for guests to enjoy their treat. My favorite aspect of this place is that the soft serve vanilla ice cream has a quality taste and texture. We've probably all experienced a place where the vanilla soft serve just tasted off, like maybe it was a poor quality ice cream mix they were using. Not so at Penguin Palace. My second favorite aspect is that it is staffed by friendly, hard working teenagers who have been well trained to provide quality customer service 100 percent of the time.
