If you never heard of nor tried El Comal here in McCalla do yourself a favor and stop what you're doing and eat here!! This food is FIRE GOOD!!! Salsa has depth of flavor, nice heat, more than the average Mexican restaurant. Street tacos were amazing > lots of white onions and cilantro both of which I love and agree, the more the merrier in these doubled up soft shell corn tortillas. Yummy!! Added a side of beans, bc what's Mexican food without beans?> all was amazingly flavored. My favorite was the authentic Mexican music, not the typical music one might expect to hear here, but much more romantic and beautiful, a great place to eat, especially after I've just driven 10hrs. today from Virginia back to Alabama. The Mayan calendar behind the register is sure to see me again!!

Found ourselves in an area we had never been before and a local recommended we go to El Comal in McCalla. We enjoyed a pitcher of delicious margaritas, good chips and salsa. David had a mushroom quesadillas which was loaded with cheese and mushrooms. I had a rellenos quesadilla meal. Food was freshly prepared, hot and tasted great. Server was reserved but took good care of us. I love sweets/ desserts and was disappointed they were sold out of the bun cakes. We had the flan instead ( would NOT recommend). Our bill was $43 before tip. Upon paying we found out that there are several El Comal restaurants with one being in Pelham in the old Ninos building. Definitely going to give that one a try. Hopefully they'll have bun cake.

Stopped in to check them out as im not from the area. I arrived around 1pm (lunchtime) and ordered queso and a taco salad. Chips, salsa and queso were amazing so i was hopeful that the salad would be the same. I was very disappointed when i started to mix it up, it was cold, watery, barely any flavor and i could see grease from the meat after braking up the bowl and mixing it further. The ONLY reason for 3 stars is because of the chips, salsa, queso and service. Ive had a taco salad from an authentic mexican restaurant before and the one from here was by far the worst.

I had called in a order. They said that I hadn't. So I had to reorder my food. I asked for a Burrito Supreme and 3 Soft Tacos. I had asked them to make me some flour tortillas chips. I have never had a problem with it before. They said they could not make them. I also got a Cheese dip. I can't eat the corn chips. I had my teeth removed and I could only eat the flour tortillas. So I waited for my food to be made. I went ahead and paid for my food. It was over 20 dollars. So I thought it would be really good. I get to my friends house and we chatted a while and then we opened the bag ( it was tied shut) and I take the chips that we can't eat out and the dip. The container I opened was mine. The 3 Tacos. I handed my friend there's and they took it to the microwave. For a minute. I reopened my container and I had 3 Tacos meat a few pieces of lettuce and cheese. No tomatoes or sour cream. My friend opened there's and it was a tortilla and meat no lettuce or beans or rice or Sour cream. A little bit of sauce was put in the corner of the box. I thank God that I had some salsa and cheese sauce to go over it. I paid over 20 dollars for the worse food I had ever gotten. I tell you that the food is not that good. Try...

The food is always great! Everything I have tried is wonderful. One of my favorite things are the Chile rellenos, which they do a little different than other places. But the taste is out of this world. They also have their own version of arroz con pollo which I like. The salsa is usually a little spicy for me, and not something I can feed my child. But my boyfriend and friends who love heat really enjoy it.

We have been here multiple times and only had one instance where the waitress we had was not attentive and instead spent a lot of time either at the register or near the sink talking to staff, or on her phone. And she only came back to our table when our to go order for someone who didn't come with us was ready and at the same time she brought our check. As we looked for her, we even had other wait staff looking back at us, but no one came or intervened. This was a one-time occurrence, and we did not want to be rude by saying anything or doing anything that might offend or upset the waitress.

This is the best restaurant we have found, especially for mexican, around the Woodstock / Lake View area. It is even better than some of the restaurants in the larger cities...

DO NOT BUY THE CHEESE DIP! 50% WATER! Not while hot, after cooled for over an hour, it is definitely half water, wont even scoop, its liquid, soo they are charging 7.70 for less than a cup, that is less than half a cup of cheese. Then, 3rd time I have been put on hold for over 20 minutes, i get hung up on trying to order, On arrival to order, others have had theirs taken after me when I called before yet get their food first. They are very unprofessional, Cheesedip is like WATER! My chilli relleno , which is supposed to be a poblano pepper filled with meat, battered and fried with cheese, WAS NOT. It was a bell pepper stuffed with hard tamale bread and weird meat, was gross, and was in a pan with my burrito with half an inch of an unidentified liquid that soaked my burrito. They are the worst all the way around. I wouldn't recommend them to Anyone. Very overpriced and only keep charging more. They take advantage of being in the middle of nowhere. THANKS FOR TAKING PRIDE FOR WHAT YOU DO! GOD...
