This was my first time eating from this establishment since I've moved to Memphis. My significant had the taste for some rib tips and I heard that they had some good ones. When my brother came from Chicago and asked where to get some ribs and I obviously picked the wrong place and never lived it down so I asked around then and this was the name I heard. My significant, a native, was happy when he saw the bag from A&R. Well, he got his tip plate and said everything was good. He especially liked the coleslaw. I got a turkey sandwich combo and a side of spaghetti. I too enjoyed my food. That turkey sandwich was hitting. It had so much meat on it and I ordered the regular. The fries with the combo were crinkled which I love but only this was the only area I had to deduct points. They were not that good. The fry seemed to be maybe a cheaper one. Not nasty but definitely not good like crinkle fries be. Took that 5 down to a 4.5. The spaghetti was delicious also and I'm not crazy about barbecue. The restaurant was clean. But I could not do a 5 on service or atmosphere. The ladies at the counter really had that stank look on their faces. They weren't nasty but the customer service just wasn't there. I was the one to speak as i entered the establishment. Even upon picking up my order I was the one saying thank you and wishing them a good day. Geez!!!!! I hate this. How simple is customer service but this seems to be the norm unfortunately. Overall, I will visit this establishment again. I just pray the lack of customer service doesn't...
Read moreDecent BBQ. I had the rib plate, catfish, hot link sandwich, fried okra, seasoned fries, and baked beans.
Disclaimer. This review is probably more personal preference. Being that I'm from Southeast texas, I ate food with lots of flavoring and seasoning. Creole, Louisiana influence and now I live in Dallas. Tons of food choices with high quality restaurants. I'm a true foodie.
I heard good reviews of this place and so I decided to try them out. In texas, I'm used to a dry rub. That means meat is seasoned and the seasoning is cooked onto meat. You can cook barbecue sauce onto the meat too, and then continue cooking. The flavor and seasoning gets cooked directly into the meat with the smoke. The barbecue sauce will get caramelized into the meat.
In memphis, it seems like the sauce is the star of the show. Not my thing. Meat lacks flavor. So did the catfish. Heck a little Tony chachere's would been a bit of an upgrade in flavor.
The ribs were smokey and tender but, to me it lacked flavor and seasoning. So did the catfish. I grew up eating spicy food so my taste buds may be skewed.
That being said, it was busy so I know lots of people believe this spot has great food. Being that the sauce is the star of the show, there's more of a mustard, vinegar taste that leaves you with a bit of a tangy feel. Not bad... but without sauce, I wouldn't be able to enjoy just the meat by itself. I do believe most people will enjoy this place. Not my thing. I give it a solid B rating or 4 stars.
I'm about to try their caramel cake. We'll see how it...
Read moreI have been going to the location on Elvis Presley for over 6 years, and in the past 6-8 months, the service has deteriorated to a level that I will be looking for my BBQ elsewhere. When we call, it takes calling 7-10 times in a row to get someone to answer the phone and then we are put on hold for at least 10 minutes if not longer. Then we get home and half the time the order is wrong. We order a rib tip special, tips, and fries, how is that the guys in the kitchen viewed that as a pound of tips, no fries is beyond me, yes it was rung up correctly. Yesterday we (my husband and I) both tried calling on separate phones; we were both put on hold for 10 minutes each. We decided to forget about calling in and just walk in. When we walked in, we got our order was taken, no problem, but we noticed that the young ladies were having no problem answering the phone and taking orders then. The young lady looked a bit startled and affronted that I wanted to check my order before I left, considering the last time it was wrong, I wouldn't think that this was a problem, but she did. I understand that sometimes it gets busy, but you should still not have customers on hold forever, never coming back to the phone; added that the orders are not right or the quality not the same, that makes for a bad experience. I like your food, but to drive from NW Mississippi, it's not worth...
