Helena's Mountain Market & Restaurant — Restaurant in Mentone

THIS RESTAURANT IS NOT HELENA'S ANYMORE... THIS WAS SOLD TO SOMEONE A WHILE BACK AND THE NAME CHANGED TO MOUNTAIN MARKET & DELI......WHEN THIS OWNERSHIP CHANGED WE WENT TO EAT LUNCH THERE... THE BILL WAS 25 AND SOME CHANGE MY HUSBAND PAID THE GUY AT THE REGISTER WITH A 100.00. WE DIDNT COUNT THE AMOUNT WHEN CHANGE WAS GIVEN BACK, WE STOPPED LATER ON AT A GAS STATION AND NOTICED THAT THE CHANGE THAT WAS GIVEN WAS THE AMOUNT OF THE BILL SO I CALLED AND SPOKE WITH A GUY THAT SAID HE OWNER IT TOLD HIM WHAT HAPPENED AND HE BASICALLY TOLD ME THAT WAS A LIE. I ASKED FOR HIM TO COUNT THE DRAWER DOWN AND HE TOLD ME THAT HE WOULDNT DO THAT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY I ASKED HIM TO CALL ME TOMORROW AFTER THE DRAWER WAS COUNTED. THAT CALL WAS NEVER PLACED.... I CALLED BACK SEVERAL DAYS IN A ROW TO TALK TO HIM AND WAS NEVER ABLE TO SPEAK WITH HIM SO BEING A LOCAL WE DECIDED JUST TO EAT THE LOSS AND JUST NOT RETURN DUE TO THE MANNER...

Helena's looks like a gas station, because it IS a gas station. However, it is also an extremely good place to grab breakfast and lunch at reasonable prices. The cheeseburger is about as good as you will get anywhere...handmade ground chuck patty, and cooked upon ordering. Also, the servers there are about as sweet and attentive as you will find anywhere...anywhere.

Caveat: while Helena's takes credit cards, it does so at the 'gas station counter.' This means you can't leave a tip on there. So...be sure to bring a few dollars to put in the tip jar, because those...

We stayed in Mentone during the "off season" I guess. When we asked a shop owner for a recommendation for food, she swore by Helena's. I was not impressed, at all. After you order you go outside across the parking lot and into the gas station to pay for your food. The food took forever and honestly, was not that great. Don't order the patty melt. It is NOT a patty melt. It's a chopped up flavorless hamburger patty on dry...
