So, I'm actually sitting here at the airport awaiting my flight and hadn't had dinner yet. So I goto this place and they have a limited menu because they're about an hour away from closing time. The available menu items are a different spin items that I'm only slightly familiar with, so choose something I thought I was most familiar with, the tamale bites, which I had never tried before.
I could tell that they were cooked to perfection and I'm sure for those who have a palate that desire the taste for them, they were amazing, but unfortunately my taste buds didn't care for that particular item. So, feeling horrible that I wasabout to toss a perfectly delicious item that someone else I'm sure would have appreciated, I took a long shot and asked if I could trade the dish. The young lady was so sweet, as I apologized. I fully expected to be turned down flat, but she asked the cook and they allowed me to choose one of the different items from the available limited menu. I was shocked at their kindness. So I ordered the mini chimi, which is a miniature dish of Chimi chungas served cold (at least I hope they were intentionally cold, because they were refreshingly cold and yet still tasty) with a scoop of guacamole and a scoop of sour cream, cheese and salsa. So all in all I give them 4 stars for their service and would have given 5 had the chimichangas been hot, but at least they weren't like warm where it might have been mistaken that they were supposed to be hot. Nonetheless, I think they would have been better hot.
But something inside me tell me they may have been repaying me for sending the food back. If so... joke's on them because it was actually very delicious cold. If not, then mission accomplished, ...

The quaintly detailed and laid-out format creates a conveniently comfortable setup inside and surprisingly also has a nice outdoor seating area. You can immediately tell Macayo’s has been cooking up a storm of Mexican in Arizona for a few generations now! Airport food is at best questionable, yet Macayo’s offerings are above and beyond what most any airport resto offers. On our way out of town recently we stopped in for a quick breakfast and were simply amazed at how good it was. My wife and Sis went for the Breakfast Burritos with warm flour tortillas and scrambled eggs, along with fried potatoes, and mixed cheeses, along with refried beans – delish! I had the Chorizo & Egg Skillet with nicely sauteed potatoes, little chunks of calabacitas, a super nice chorizo, stimulating relleno sauce, overlaid with 2 fried eggs, slice Avocado and refreshing Pico de Gallo. It looks like Macayo’s is doing what they do so well in their restos for those going airborne. Buen...
Read moreIt was a little chaotic, the gentleman that was at the host stand was running around like crazy before I finally got in line. I told him I just wanted to grab a cocktail and preferably take it outside. He handed me a menu and said he'd be right out. All 3 of the open tables were dirty so I sat down at the one with the most sun. I sat for over 20 min. Not a single dirty dish on any of the open tables were taken in. The servers each walked past me without even making sure contact while I stared at them at least 3 times as well as the man that said I could sit came out and went back in. After about 20 min I went inside and purchased a bottle of water from the gift shop. He then saw me and said "sorry I missed you outside would you like something togo." Now that I'm boarding no I wouldn't like something Togo. I just can't get over the fact that the servers weren't even cleaning off the dirty dishes when walking back inside...
