I'm just gonna say it straight up... pretty sure they don't care for the lighter skinned customers. Recently moved into the neighborhood and had to kill some time waiting for a friend so figured I'd check out the closest watering holes. I had actually been here a couple times way back when it was the Dirty Drummer and wasnt too bad then so figured they just changed management/owners. They def did lol.
Walked in and went to the bar. Bartender was friendly enough, "Hi there, I'll be right with you" so I sat down, pulled out a 10 bill, set it down and waited patiently to order a beer while cruising my phone, looking up here and there in case she was ready. Also looked around to check it out. Place wasn't too busy, a few tables dining and some people just drinking, but the actual bar was just me. Been to plenty of bars and sometimes they just have to take care of a few things before they get back to serving. No biggie, I'm patient. Then another guy that was obviously a reguler comes up, chats her up for a sec and orders a drink which she immediately gets to making and serves him, completely ignoring me and my cash on the bar, and not even a look my way to let me know I'd be "next".
Now... when I did my scan around the place, I also noticed I was the only white dude in there. Didn't bother me, but apparently it bothered them. Got a few "looks" from I guess regulars. So with the sudden realization that "my kind" probably wasn't welcome I grabbed my 10 and quietly left. But I also agree with another review here that seems like a good place to get into a fight for no reason if you arent looking for one. I've been in similar places with that vibe so not the first time. Probably not the last time either, but definitely the last time I go to this spot. Can't help but wonder which of us is happier about that lol.
Who cares... rookie mistake on my part since I'm recently new to the area after living elsewhere for years, and my friends laughed pretty hard when I told them I went there so locals know. But just a heads up for any others who may be looking for a quick drink and grub but don't know, and like me, lack the proper amount of melanin for their establishment. Seems a little ironic if you think about it, but fair enough. I had a pretty mild experience but maybe it'll help some other poor fool who doesnt know and wonders in at the wrong time under different circumstances, and God forbid they get...
Read moreHostile, angry and very unprofessional... FIRST VISIT... GOT MENUES RIPPED FROM TABLE AND DENIED SERVICE... AFTER LEGAL PERSON OF AGE SHOWED ID.
Do NOT Go.
More Details:
Sitting at booth... not bar (very important)
Showed my ID to the bartender, she saw I was of age to drink, which we were just gonna order food and work on some business anyways, no alchohol. Something anyone has the right to do in this country.
My friend that was with me who is 23, was of age to drink, who did NOT have to show his ID because I already showed mine to the bartender. And the waitress/bartender even told my friend, "You have to show ID, or have some one of age with you."
I showed her my ID and knew I was of age... so we were actually following what she said based on the fact that you could be served if you have someone of age with you. (So she was just starting a fight like a sheep)
With the bartender logic, that means no one can simply eat food, how bad for business!
So... the waitress takes our menus, and talks OUT LOUD to other customers saying, and I quote, "I run the show around here."
How obnoxious...
So my friend goes up to her at the bar and ask her "I can eat food and Native New Yorker, what's the difference?"
And she says... "That's because Native NY does not follow the laws."
LOL... really?
So it's not illegal to sit at the booth and eat. Or else she would call the cops. She just straight up denied service to paying customers who did NOT order alchohol, and even told the waitress they were not ordering alchohol.
Not to mention the bar was only 60% full, and the booths were vacant. Only one group came in after us. Shes running that show into the ground is what's shes doing.
DO NOT GO HORRIBLE SERVICE RUDE UNPROFESSIONAL DISRESPECTFUL
Description: Waitress had long blonde hair, in her 50s... looks diabetic. Does not deserve to be in...
Read moreI have been here 4 times. I do like the karaoke on the weekends, drink specials on the weekends with free pool (Friday & Saturday only). I have been to 7 different bars and this is the only one that charges $0.75 per game during the weekdays. The only reason why I find this odd is because you only have 2 pool tables. Why would you charge your customers $0.75 per game at a modest establishment like this? I was here last night and they closed 1 hour & 16 minutes early because the bartender was to tired to serve paying customers drinks. The cook who served 3 other friends of mine, myself & others, were serving us shots & beers all night. He was apparently not allowed to serve this establishment half full of good paying guests after the tired bartender left. I can honestly say that I do not think I will be coming back here until management addresses the roaches in the womens bathroom (not sure about the mens, my girlfriend went to the restroom with me and she had to toss me her flip-flop so that I could kill it in my stall when I was using the toilet. Just unacceptable). Along with the confusion of patrons who come in being served by someone else who was not a bartender and not being served by that same person if some other bartender leaves. The owners need to address their employee issues along with the infestation in the bathrooms before I ever think about coming back here anytime soon. I love going to this bar, I love the owners, have met them personally and the Mesa community loves them too. However, I do feel that if you ever wish to get regular customers every week that you guys have to address employee issues along with the infestation issue as soon as possible please. With Love, Loyal...
