Update 2: I thank the serrano rep for the concern. I am much better. It was most definitely the food. After the food violently vacated my system I was right as rain. Perhaps no one else informed you of their bad experience but based on the taste and my physical reaction I am almost 100% sure it was rotten veggies. The service was not slow at my last visit, the complaint was just the bad food. I hope you can double check your Mesa kitchen and veggie rotation protocol so this doesn't happen to anyone else. Glad I could help bring it to your attention.
Update: My visiting sister wanted to try serranos again, so we gave it another chance. It was horrible. I tried the veggie enchilada and it was so bad it made me throw up (no exaggeration). I have never sent food back before but there was no way I could force this thing down. They replaced it with a cheese enchilada but I couldn't eat it because the first one upset my stomach too much. My sister was also feeling sick after. I think the veggies might have been rotten. I ended up paying $20 (my plate only) for food poisoning. I took the replacement cheese enchilada home to give to the dogs but with how sick I was feeling I decided it wasn't even fit for dogs.
This place has really gone down hill. Service is horrid, prices are outrageous for the so-so quality food. The salsa bowls have shrunk and it takes ages for them to be filled again, even if you ask multiple times. Servers are indifferent at best and flat out rude at worst. Our server was arrogant and dismissive. Quoted the wrong price for an item then tried to intimidate and make me feel bad when I asked about it. Don't appreciate being made to feel like I am bothering them for asking them to do their job. Food is not worth the disrespect. Used to come here every week but I will NOT...
Read moreMy husband and I have been going to Serrano's for the past 20 years. We frequented the location on Val Vista and Guadalupe, which is no longer open. Since the closing of this location the closest location to us now is this Serranos on Mckellips. We have tried this location twice now and the first time they got our order wrong, no problem things happen. Last night took the cake. We arrived close to 6pm. We were able to sit in the bar where there was approx. 3 other tables already seated. Stephanie the waiter was pleasant and quick to take our drink order. We ordered our dinner when she returned to the table with our drinks. I ordered a bean/cheese burrito and my husband ordered 2 chicken flautas. At 6:40pm my husband said wow 35 minutes for 2 dinners? Stephanie came by a few minutes later and we asked her why it was taking so long. She replied the other side of the restaurant was so busy but she would keep checking on our order. In the meantime two other tables filled up around us. A couple who came in 30 minutes after us were served there meal. By this time we were fuming but still decided to wait thinking our meal would be out any time. Now 1 hour and 10 minutes later the waitress comes out with a tray, which we are thinking is finally our meal. Nope, she goes to the other table across from us, who by the way came in 40 minutes after us. Needless to say we got up and asked for the manager. He came out and when we proceeded to tell our story he just replied with a sorry folks. I understand having a bad night but I see a BAD trend with this location. I'm sure the Serrano family never intended to have service like this coming out of there...
Read moreOur family has been coming to Serrano’s Mexican Restaurant since our sons were very small. We have always loved the incredible food, atmosphere, and personable staff. Our son recently passed away and we needed to have his Celebration of Life catered for a luncheon. My husband and I only thought of one restaurant and we were hoping Serrano’s could provide that service. We sat down with Michelle Johnson, the manager at the 1964 E McKellips Rd restaurant in Mesa. She was able to suggest a wonderful menu. Michelle showed extreme compassion and mercy for the loss of our son. Michelle stated she was happy to accommodate our catering needs. She was our angel from Heaven! Michelle and her amazing staff worked diligently to prepare the most delicious meal we have ever tasted. The food arrived hot, on time, and with cheerful hearts. All the guests were commenting that the steak and chicken fajitas were superb. The flavor was astounding! The beans, rice, bean dip, salsa, sour cream, and guacamole were also very delicious. They even provided handmade tortillas and chips!! Serrano’s Mexican Restaurant Staff went above and beyond to make our son’s service one to remember. We are extremely grateful and blessed by your gracious acts of kindness and love. We appreciate all the labor that went into preparing a successful banquet for our family. We are forever thankful...
