Sunday evening, we three supped at the "club." "What's the club? I asked. Turns out another Ponderosa ranch building at Sun City. Circling the lot no cars were parked. "Is it closed?". Street lamps and outside walk lighting were extinguished. Then under the starry sky we espied a half dozen cars. Walking across the drive we carefully negotiated unlit curb and stairs with black handrails. Entry doors were unlocked so we entered a large dining hall spanned by wooden trusses. The perimeter was lined with deep wooden booths to seat six per bench. Circular and rectangular tables of varying heights and size filled the hall in view of large screen TVs showing programming for various tastes. Seated at first around a seven seat round table, our waitress, Maria, accommodated my wish to try the booth which allowed an extra three inches for my ample girth and intimate face to face private conversing. The menu was limited with few entrees, twice as many sandwiches, salads. The soup du jour was cream of broccoli liked by our "dieter" who ordered a Reuben. The men opted for salads with the signature sandwich and fish and chips which came with Cole slaw and tartar sauce. Without asking Maria provided malt vinegar and ketchup. The whitefish were battered and the chips here normally served wedged. Maria announced the potato options and substituted slaw to go along with the Reuben and pickles. Salads come in petite pricing. The small chef salad was a meal in itself with a quarter a peck of tiny tomatoes which were spooned with a creamy-thick balsamic vinaigrette. We were glad the sandwich course were proportionate after the filling beginning. For dessert a chocolate cake and cheese cake served with scoops of vanilla ice cream matched my gingerbread carrot cake. As we left external illumination was on. It's timer probably needs resetting as winter solstice is less than a week away and old folks like us don't see as well at night. One last thing if you want good fish and chips try any workman's pub in any Scotland or Britain town or hamlet: served in tabloid newsprint unbattered cod chunks and crinkle cut potatoes. First January Monday visited 1880 Grille again. Had Asian Chicken petite salad, a variety of shredded cabbage, sliced cucumber, Mandarin Orange sections, garnished with two types of noodles and diced chicken. The Asian salad dressing was very thick and sweet dreams. Had also ordered a Philly Cheese Steak sandwich with a side of Cole slaw. A baby gerkin and dill spear garnished the plate. But the salad, small as it was, filled the stomach so doggy bags...
Read moreMe and My husband came to 1880 grille on Tuesday morning, the 22nd of November. I have Celiac disease, so it's important I am given allergy accommodations and for the restaurant to follow allergy protocols. Our server, Victoria Rivera, DID NOT follow allergy protocols. She was incredibly rude and had a horrible attitude as soon as she greeted us. She did not know what allergens were in the menu, infact, she expected ME to know. She was combative about my disease and almost mocking when I asked her if toast was served on their breakfast dishes. She briefly argued with me while my husband sat in shock over the situation. I was finally able to find a dish I was comfortable eating, and after we finished our breakfast she returned with the bill, cleared our plates, and didn't return for the check. We waited 10 minutes for her to come back and she never did, so my husband caught up to her at the bar and he paid there. He was given his card and receipt back, but not a pen to sign for the tip or the payment. He left without signing for a tip, considering the way she treated us while we were there. I was gonna let this all go and move on from the expirence, however I'm writing this because this morning as we are checking our bank statements, there's a very clear charge for a 4 dollar tip on our bank statements from 1880 grille. This woman was combative, sour, and mocking over my disability and then decided to take a tip for herself after not even giving my husband the time of day to sign. Do not give her the...
Read moreIf you’re driving through Mesquite, Nevada and you want a burger 🍔, this is the place to get it. There’s other places in Mesquite that tout that they have the best burger but we’ve tried them and this one is definitely a few steps above the rest. This burger is called the 1880 burger and you can find it at the Conestoga Golf Course clubhouse restaurant, The 1880 Grille. They have other yummy food finds there like their chicken wings that have this nice light crunchy outside and tender juicy inside with three different sauces to choose from. Back to the burger...it is grilled just like if you had done it on the bbq grill outside at home. Then it has small fried onion straws, lettuce, tomato, real cheddar cheese and then their special sauce they use. You get a choice of French fries that are the quartered potato kind, tater tots which I got and asked for cheese and they put this glorious cheese sauce on them, onion rings, or cole slaw. Above and beyond the delicious food, is the beautiful view of sitting on the edge of the golf course with the view of the surrounding mesas and wildlife, and the service was perfection. I highly recommend this place. You will find this golf course at the top of the Sun City housing retirement community housing area. Very easy to get to and find. Give...
