Conestoga has both the good fortune and the misfortune of being in the same town as Wolf Creek. The misfortune is that many people will miss Conestoga altogether since Wolf Creek has been seen by so many and looks like it may literally be a video game. It is otherworldly in so many ways. As a result, many that come to the Mesquite area will make a trip there to play Wolf Creek and return to wherever they came from. On the other hand, others will want to take advantage of the travel to Mesquite and wander over to Conestoga. For those who miss it....let me just say...you REALLY missed it. For those who found the opportunity to play a second round of golf and made it to Conestoga, they made out like a bandit. Conestoga is an absolute gem of a golf course. I made the trip to the area to play Wolf Creek since it was on my bucket list. But I wanted to play another round and chose to mozy over to Conestoga. What an absolute delight. The course plays in a similar setting as Wolf Creek but feels completely different. Where Wolf Creek is wild and loud, Conestoga is smooth and refined, but not tame. It's like going from the roller coaster to the log rides. Sure, the coaster makes you scream and takes your breath away in other places. But then the log ride allows you to sit back a little and enjoy the ride a little more. But then you get that plunge that takes you to a refreshing spray of water. The differences between Wolf Creek and Conestoga are a bit like that. You'll never forget Wolf Creek. But Conestoga will take you on a refreshing, thrilling, but less intense ride that is just enjoyable, but in a completely different way. If you have the ability to play with a local, take advantage. Some local knowledge of the course will really come in handy. If you're in the area, make sure you don't miss one of the best rides...
Read moreMy friends and I do an annual golf trip to Mesquite every year and we just got back yesterday. Conestoga is always on the play list along with Coyote Springs and Wolf Creek and we rotate a fourth course, this year playing the Oasis Palmer course. Having said that, this review is about the experience at Conestoga compared to the other courses. We've been coming to Conestoga annually for the last 6 years. Over the last two years we've found the experience to be deteriorating. Most specifically, the lack of water for players on the course. We were told there would be a water cooler to fill up with water every three holes, but that wasn't the case. There was no beverage cart service on the course. We look forward to seeing Phil out there each year, but this year, nothing. No beverage cart service at all. There used to be a ranger out there on the course checking on you, offering you a cool wet towel to beat the heat, usually mango scented or something, which was a really nice touch. Not this year. There was someone there to clean my clubs after the round, but that's not what I really needed out there in in the 110 degree heat. The course was in good condition and well maintained and always a treat to play on. As an overall experience, it was disappointing compared to what we've grown accustomed to in years' past and we might consider replacing Conestoga on our annual trip to...
Read moreSome friends and I have been coming here for over a decade for an annual trip. Sadly, this most recent visit to the course may well be one of the worst experiences I’ve had anywhere. From my first time at the course receiving one of the best and friendliest of welcomes turned into being accosted and grilled on why I was there. My buddy had to ask if we were even wanted and whether we should leave. Individual in club house unfriendly with a scowl or something on the face. Either way, unpleasant. Since the first time I played here during the throes of the recession this has been my favorite course and have anxiously awaited to return every year that I can. I don’t see myself returning to mesquite nor this course. I hear St. George has some nice courses that I’ve been ignoring for years as I didn’t see a point given how incredible my experiences at Conestoga have been. Ever since Troon took over the course the service has steadily been worse each year. This year was on an entirely new level though. Hope others can have a better experience.
Follow up 9/5/21: spoke with the course recently and they were truly apologetic with my experience. Assured me that my experience was unacceptable and will be sure to correct. It was a really pleasant conversation and genuine throughout. He was anxious to understand and to know what could be done to improve. I plan and look forward to...
